Didn't Ehrlich propose we'd be reduced to mass cannibalism by 1995? Or was that some other "well respected futurist"? Never believe a word these guys say, they're stuff never comes true (both the "second" ice age and global warming were supposed to have put most of both coast lines under water by now), and their only answer when they don't is that "people must have headed my warning". If I weren't such an honest person "futurist" would be a very tempting profession, getting paid a lot of money to be full of crap and held 100% not accountable. Actually that's pretty tempting even with my honesty. I don't think I could keep a straight face through the "lectures" though.

Elrich was wrong about food production. He was close to being right about population growth in the 3rd world. He was wrong about birthrates in the first world. The study above, however, is not about food growth or about US birthrates. It's about immigration, which is indeed exploding and shows no signs of any slowdown.
