PARIS, April 6 (AFP) - France's foreign ministry lodged an official complaint with Israel Friday after Israeli forces opened fire on a "diplomatic convoy" evacuating 60 EU citizens from a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank.

"Israeli tanks launched machine-gun fire at the vehicles in the convoy in the middle of the road as passengers boarded as part of an evacuation operation conducted in coordination with the Israeli army" from the Dheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem, the ministry said in a statement.

"Following the shooting by Israeli soldiers, in which a French television crew came under fire, we have lodged a protest with the Israeli authorities and we reiterate to them our demand that the security of journalist teams in the area be assured," the ministry added.

Earlier the EU citizens involved were described by organisers of the evacuation efforts as pro-Palestinian pacifists, seeking to escape the refugee camp surrounded by Israeli troops.

British, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Swiss activists were said to be among the group, accompanied by diplomats from several countries.

In a separate incident Friday, Israeli troops threw five stun grenades at a group of 40 journalists in front of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's besieged headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which came as the journalists pulled up to cover Arafat's scheduled meeting with US peace envoy Anthony Zinni.

France is just plain silly. IDF told journalists to leave the war area. Journalists keep sneaking in. How can IDF assure their security?

The French need to clean up their own anti-semetic trash before they complain about minimal amount of intimidation in a war zone!

Amazing how the French surrendered and the Jews didn't even bother in the last 'big one', but both wound up with an impressive 'nuclear arsenal'. Go figure!

No. The "pacifists" are communists and pro-terrorist fellow travelers. Not one tear would I shed if any of these scum were accidently killed.

The French seem to be skating on pretty thin ice. The anti-semitic crap that's been going on in that country is disgusting to say the least. Their country is almost gone, they have little or no culture remaining, they complain about the US culture and McDonald while their churchs are being replaced with mosques and they are forced to hide inside their houses for fear of being raped or murdered.

"Monsieur SS Man, which of my daughters would you like to sample?"

The French disgust me. My dad told me how some of the French women would fire on the advancing Americans so their German boyfriends could get the hell out of Dodge. The GI's came to dislike the French.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Amazing how France, and so much of the EU, willingly continues the march in Monsieur Hitler's haunting goosestep. They have a superiority complex born of failed empire and can't even be decent, much less civilized.

Eurotrash and executive tranvestites they are.

LIke children born of incest and abuse, they perpetuate the degenerate European legacy of their forefathers, who enabled the Nazi era and the Holocaust.

Dem fools just don't wanna learn nuthin'!!!
