Last night, looking North-East, around 9:00 I saw two incredibly bright flashes just below the horizon. It was a mostly clear night. their was no indication that their was thunderstorm activity and their was no sound of thunder. could this have been the same event? BTW I live in Michigan.

"could this have been the same event? BTW I live in Michigan." Don't know but, not likely. Maybe another? After the 1908 Tunguska event, people in London were able to read newspapers outside at midnight from the 'glow'.

two incredibly bright flashes just below the horizon. One possibility is a short in the high tension lines or local distribution lines in the power grid. A vehicle hitting a pole or a tree contacting the wires would do it. It could have been a couple of bolides, but two in the same area in a short time is highly unlikely.
