Stonehenge is very underwhelming in person I could not disagree more. I guess it depends on the person. Yes, there's a lot of ticky-tacky with the cheaply-built shops and the motor routes, but I found my visit there to be one of the high points of a visit to Britain. No one with a serious interest in archaeology/anthropology should deny themselves this experience. There's a LOT of other stuff to see in the immediate area, too.

It does not strike me as obvious that an archer - as opposed to, say, a stone cutter? - who happened to be buried miles away a thousand years later had anything to do with construction of Stonehenge. Having been there, btw, I can say that the most impressive thing about Stonehenge is first seeing it across the plain as you drive (well, we biked) up. The closer you get, the less impressive it is, but you have to give it credit for still being upright.

Twenty minutes won't be enough for me! I love megaliths and all the speculation about the finds and possible cultures. Not all in my family find this stuff interesting though, so thanks for the tip.

So, the Swiss built Stonehenge and gave us an archer! Well, in retaliation, I say we send 'em Shania Twain!
Semper Fi,
Just adding this to the GGG catalog, not sending a general distribution. Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on, off, or alter the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --
Archaeology/Anthropology/Ancient Cultures/Artifacts/Antiquities, etc.
The GGG Digest -- Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)
