Calculate the drive time from wherever you are in England, and add 20 minutes. Stonehenge is very underwhelming in person, err, stone.
Take in Salisbury Cathedral while you're there and it's not a bad double.
All those ground up aspect photos do look better than the view from behind the rope line.
I could not disagree more. I guess it depends on the person. Yes, there's a lot of ticky-tacky with the cheaply-built shops and the motor routes, but I found my visit there to be one of the high points of a visit to Britain. No one with a serious interest in archaeology/anthropology should deny themselves this experience. There's a LOT of other stuff to see in the immediate area, too.
