I'm of the opinion that it was canceled because he was getting far too pro-war and militant for the suits at HBO.

You apparently didn't catch his latest special on this past Saturday night. My favorite quote:

Wow! I missed most of this show.... will have to catch a rebroadcast. It seemed to me that the audience was not exactly in synch with what Miller was saying though.

I enjoyed most of the Dennis Miller special, right up until he made the remark about the Constitution being an out of date old parchment that needs to be updated, and that in this day and age, nobody needs to own a gun.

Not to belabor the point, but there's a good chance the guy had 'x' number of specials as part of his contract--after all, they did replace him with, *snicker*, Bill Maher.
