You can't make this stuff up.
“He said he wanted to assure the people that the synod still does not recognize same-sex marriage.”
. . . yet.
Love the word ‘still’ in the quote.
Replace ‘still does not’ with ‘will never’ and then it begs a statement from the Home Office to back it up.
In other words, Zellmer’s statement is essentially a guarantee.
Look at it this way, the ELCA took 20 years to get the sect to the point where they are today. All Zellmer is saying is that, for now, gay marriage is still out. If he advocates not bolting, then he ought to be agreeing for a counterstatement calling for the ELCA to forever disavow gay marriage.
The existing jelly sandwich of a statment still recognizes marriage to be between one man and one woman, but time in grade with this idiotic policy will build a coalition of gay pastors, and they’ll go active to dislodge the marriage bit of the policy too.
Worse than a used car salesman, Zellmer.
I understand. I just wanted to clarify my opinion that the ELCA doesn’t qualify as a ‘good’ church IMO.
There’s fractured reasoning here: One (or both) of the members of a homosexual couple in a “committed, loving (?) relationship” may serve as pastor(s) of an ELCA congregation, but at the same time the ELCA does not endorse marriage for homosexual couples. Is this not for all practical (but not ecclesiastical or moral) purposes marriage?
?????????
My patron and the patron of exiles. :) Wonderful man.
Many of us in the ELCA may soon find ourselves exiles. We’ll be in excellent company.
