I just got off the phone with my friend, and can provide a little more info about little Grace's condition. When she was delivered, her heart and breathing had stopped and it took 15 minutes to have her resucitated. Because it took so long the doc's primary concerned was for her brain, and she's been being maintained in a cold blanket to minimize the damage (apologize if I have the medical details or rationale wrong, but that is my understanding). She's still on life support although her heart is beating on its own. This morning she experienced a series of seizures, and her brain activity level, which the doctor's had previously been encouraged about has somewhat dropped off. She's currently undergoing a number of tests that started about 4:00 p.m. this afternoon and are expected to continue 'til about 10:00 p.m. tonight.
The plan at present is to start withdrawing her from the cold blanket on Thursday, and then give her an MRI on Friday to try to more fully ascertain the condition of her brain.
As I noted earlier, my friend reported the baby squeezing her finger. The doctors were of the opinion that it was part of her seizures, but my friend remains positive that Grace was responding to her presence. My friend's daughter, the baby's mom is expected to be discharged from the hospital here on Thursday, and should be able to be reunited with her daughter in New Orleans at that time.
Again, all your prayers are HUGELY appreciated. It is my sincerest hope that someday, little Grace can be given a printout of this thread to see how many wonderful people were pulling for her during her first days.
She still has a long, uphill fight, but thus far she's shown herself to be quite the fighter, and as evidence by this thread, she has some wonderful folks pulling for her.
Going on the daily prayer list.
Joe...thanks SO much for the update on Grace. These kind folk I've pinged are the BEST! :)

Continued prayers.
Praying for baby Grace and her family. Also for the medical staff caring for her that The Lord will guide them and inspire them for Grace’s complete healing.
Thank you for the update. I’ll continue praying. Just a FWIW - every time I think of her I think of Amazing Grace.
Thank you for the update.
Prayers continue....
Prayers on the way.
Thank you for the update. Prayers continue.
Joe, thanks again for your update. It will be helpful for both when mom and baby are reunited on Thursday. I would imagine Grace’s mom hasn’t even gotten to hold her yet. I continue to pray for Grace, her family, her medical team and you.
I *think* the ‘cold blanket’ is to keep Grace’s brain from swelling, if it was deprived of oxygen for 15 minutes. They have to keep that swelling down, and cold is the way to do it. We pray her activity resumes in the pattern she’d established last night.
For dearest Grace...May the Lord’s angels encamp around her and also her mom...and Godspeed the healing that will bring both of them joy and peace.
may the Lord bring peace and support to all those close to this family and give them strength.
Thank you for the update. I will continue my prayers for little Grace!
Prayers for the new one and her mother and their good friend Joe.
