My Faith: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), from Catholic to Muslim
CNN ^ | 9/1/11 | Chris Welch

Posted on 09/02/2011 9:07:47 AM PDT by marshmallow

Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) –Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.

But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.

“When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress,” said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.

“But someone said to me, ‘Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harbor–this might be a news story.’”

Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.

But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.

“I just felt it was ritual and dogma,” Ellison said. “Of course, that’s not the reality of Catholicism, but it’s the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.”

It wasn’t until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, “looking for other things.”

"It (this short sweet prayer) accomplishes the same thing." The same thing as what? The exorcism you may or may not have claimed ("If I had done it"). Your denial of what you actually said is getting annoying.

IOW, it's another exorcism prayer, in direct violation of the RM's instructions.

Are we back to *Rules for thee but not for me* again?

Or have we ever left that?

“The whole ‘cookies’ deal is their overwhelming objection to the Eucharist, since Paul’s website planted some spyware and also datalogged their computers for credit card numbers and other personal information. A real drag, but since the Trojans in their computers blamed Catholics, well, then, here we are with the antiCatholic bias.”

And in addition to that (which is huge and I acknowledge it) the mean old Vatican is keeping records on each and every one of them. Just ask that Jack guy who seems to have given so many here their talking points.

I don’t see why you can’t reveal your methods.

I think some of us have our own guesses as to how you find things and why you don’t reveal how.

But it’s not true! Why does it need to be repeated?

It just occurred to me, a propos of not much, that the Birth of Mary reminds us that God has grandparents! And it seems to me that all this Marian hoopla comes down to the appalling humility of the Son. Celebration of grandparents and of Mary drives home what a gracious act of true condescension — in the best sense — the Incarnation is.

God defines the definition. If God declares someone or something is holy, then there can be blasphemy. Like sin, I cannot blaspheme you, neither can you blaspheme or sin against me.

With Mary, only the Roman Catholic Church has declared her holy, not God. The dictionary is using blaspheme in a secular sense, like "He commited blasphemy against Islam."

And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. -Revelation 13:6

Isn’t dragging issues from thread to thread against forum rules?

The same issues get raised time and again on thread after thread. That's not the problem. The problem is starting an argument on one thread and then spreading it to another. That's trouble-making.

Concerning the item mentioned above, you asked for it when you said at 1696 "if I had done it (I can't find any evidence of it)."

As far as I'm concerned the question was asked and answered. It's time to drop it and return to the issues.

The Greeks call her “the Panagia”, the All Holy.

And Jesus says, “If your brother sin against you, ...” (Mt 18:15?)

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

I was blessed to night . . . Getting ready for church . . . The Lord’s still small voice whispered that there’d be no sermon as was scheduled—on hell.

I expected some other topic arranged by Holy Spirit.

There was a sweet Presence of Holy Spirit during worship.

A lot of waiting before the Lord. Some kneeling, some prostrate etc.

Then Pastor begins to speak under the quiet anointing sort of word from The Lord that sometimes flows from her—sometimes a brief bit in the beginning . . . sometimes in the middle of a regular sermon, sometimes in the end. And, sometimes the whole time—nonstop as tonight.

She can also be anointed with fire and speak under Holy Spirit’s unction in a very fierce and intense way. But tonight’s was the quiet sort of edifying/ instructional/ encouraing/ leading/ challenging/ alerting to what God was doing in the service to hearts—removing stoney hearts etc. and would be doing in coming weeks in hearts and lives of those there. It was very very sweet from The Lord.

Very precious. And a bit more so because I heard accurately ahead of time that The Lord had different plans than Pastor’s original scheduled sermon on hell. YEA GOD.

Those with a valid EXPERIENCE

need never feel at the mercy of

those with merely a shabby pseudo-pretend-argument . . . particularly

when the nonsense is from the

Vatican headquartered Ishtar-Mary Goddess Cult led by Pope B.

If only God would grant Paul one night on this forum. Just one. There would be people sauntering in, peacock feathers in full array, awaiting the big moment when Paul is impressed. Those would be the same people who would be limping out of here, feathers between their legs, pretending to be cool, calm and collected even as their knees buckled under the nervous ticks.

INDEED.

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."

Jesus replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the WORD of God and OBEY it."

I'm BLESSED.
