The point isn’t the confirmation process, but their selection by the Republicans in the first place. Is there some requirement now that a GOP SC nominee be Catholic?

Awwww now you let the secret out. There is secret tunnel underneath the White hose that leads directly to the Vatican. Any time there is a SC opening the GOP President meets with the Pope midway under the Atlantic Ocean to discuss who the next nominee will be.
