The letter from Catholic Gustavo García-Siller, M.Sp.S. (VI San Antonio) to members of Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church was totally unexpected.
"... I have asked your pastor Father Christopher Phillips, effective today, January 19, 2017, to dedicate some time to reflect on certain specific concerns that I have shared with him. These specific concerns relate to expressions in the life of the parish that indicate an identity separate from, rather than simply unique, among the parishes of the archdiocese," the Archbishop wrote. "During this time of reflection and prayer, Father Phillips will not have the responsibility of pastoral care or authority in the parish."
Within minutes, the startling news started to make its way around the world. One e-mail forwarded to VOL at 3:31 PM reads: "Dear Parents and Parishioners:
"We were notified today of the canonical process being initiated by the Archdiocese to remove Fr. Phillips as the pastor of Our Lady of the Atonement Parish as well as the head of The Atonement Academy. The Archbishop stated that Fr. Phillips has done nothing wrong, yet claims his ministry is detrimental to the faith of the people and keeps the people of the parish separate from the communal activities of the archdiocese.

These little tyrsnts have been emboldened by the chief tyrant in Rome.
Why is anyone surprised? One of the main causes of the Reformation was people resenting being treated like children and dictated to by the pope and bishops.
A lot seems to remain same today. Parishioners in Catholic Churches have little say in how their churches are run and how their money is spent, isn’t that true?
They strongly preferred bring dictated to by Luther, Calvin, Henry VIII, and the nearest German prince or landgrave. Cuius regio, eius religio!
And then, a half-century+ of continent-wide religious warfare.

May all my enemies go to hell.

I notice you didn’t respond to the second part of my post. Catholic laypeople still today are treated like children who have no say in how their parishes are run or how their money is spent
Let me hazard a guess. You apparently have spent zero years serving on a Parish Council or a Parish Finance Committee.
Hey, the article that starts out this thread shows just how the lay people have no real voice in the Catholic Church. The bishop is dumping their priest and they have no say. Don’t try to confuse and deceive, it doesnt work
I take it you forgot how many peso priests have been transferred to parishes by bishops who never told the parishioners there was a problem. Treating them like children - and victims
In Protestant churches, the laity get to choose their pastors, they have the rolle of adults not children
Confuse and deceive? I’ve said nothing that was untrue. But insulting must be your way. I’m through here.
