The first openly lesbian bishop in the United Methodist Church can stay on the job for now, but she is subject to a disciplinary review that could lead to her removal, the top church court ruled Friday.
Bishop Karen Oliveto's civil marriage to another woman violates church law that bars clergy who are "self-avowed practicing homosexuals," the Judicial Council said. However, a decision over whether she can remain in the position must come from a separate disciplinary process, the court ruled.

TMI, my FRiend.
They ordain women? I thought they and Wisconsin do not, while ECLA is way out in libreal left field.
What church do you belong to?
Left UMC when it got too liberal and joined ELCA. WENT from frying pan into fire. Walked out when they brought in a queer openly anti-Trump Democrat. Looking for another church.
“Female” and “clergy” are words that do not belong together.
If I am not mistaken, the Bible specifies that pastor should be a man. Married man.
I left the Methodist church and became a Catholic. Wish I had done it years go. Not fond of this pope and some things of the church but I am in love with the liturgy.
If one claims to be a Christian they must agree the Bible is the guide book for be one. There are no other books predating the Bible concerning Christianity. With that in mind the versus Titus 2:3-5 and Romans 1: 26-28 should address any questions concerning women’s roll in church and homosexuality.
The LCMS does not have female clergy.
That is correct. It's one of the reasons I joined up. And I'm female. Like other posts above, I've never met a female clergywoman who wasn't also a huge liberal and gayness promoter.
The Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod is the original Lutheran apostolic faith. No women pastors. Sola scriptura. Huge contrast to ELCA.
The U.S. episcopal church had a split over it. A number of individual churches and the entire Fort Worth diocese reorganized and aligned under the conservative African bishops after a homosexual man was ordained bishop.
I have met several female clergy, none of them in my experience was conservative.
I believe they also have the largest network of Protestant private schools in the U.S.
Well there certainly doesn’t seem to be any well known conservative female clergy, if you put to one side the fact that they are female clergy in the first place. You would think someone would be filling that particular religious media niche if they were out there.
Freegards
Wow. So sad to hear this.
It really gets me, that churches and denominations can split over homosexuality.
Scripture tells us that homosexuality is immoral, yet we are seeing churches take steps, to actively embrace that immorality. It’s a very strange sight to see, in my opinion.
And are the pressures coming from the popular culture which has embraced homosexuality, and our civil laws, which were forced to embrace homosexual marriage due to court actions?
I know liberal and homosexual spokesmen over the years have said that they were not intending to ever compel churches perform homosexual marriages. But are they figuring that churches will capitulate to the homosexual agenda eventually??
Good luck, it took us quite a while to find the right church.
Well, the “married” part does not show up in my Catholic Bible, but we can agree on the man part. Sunday blessings to you.
Visit the Weslayan Covenant Association website. Take a look at Madalyn Henners.
That they have female clergy at all is the beginning of the problem.
With all due respects I’d get out of that building. Women are not to be pastors.
