The day before the High Sabbath ! Doesn’t mean Friday - it was. Holy Day Sabboth. Thanks for posting - my soapbox every year - as Jonah was in the belly of the fish

“Friday can never work”

Especially considering there was no “Friday” then.

Mark 15:42 is strong evidence for Friday but at the end of the day if this is what you are focused on is way off the mark.

One MUST think like a Jew and not a gentile to understand the biblical settings that take place in the Bible.

I'll see what I see from every perspective.

Take the Gregorian calendar, for example. Named after a pope name Gregory.

The masculine first name Gregory derives from the Latin name "Gregorius," which came from the late Greek name "Γρηγόριος" (Grēgorios) meaning "watchful, alert" (derived from Greek "γρηγoρεῖν" "grēgorein" meaning "to watch").

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_(given_name)

Mark 13

35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Good post & glad more are coming to the understanding of Scriptural truth.

Now about those 3 days, it is also written/prophesied that Jesus would raise on the 3rd day, which means He rose late in the afternoon on the weekly Sabbath, just as prophesy revealed He would. Sunday, the morrow after the Sabbath, He ascended to the Father as the First Fruit of the resurrection to come. Maybe this is something you can work on for next year.

From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. [Mt 16:21]

and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.[Mt 17:23]

and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day. [Mt 20:19]

that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,[1Cor 15:4]

Three days vs. three days and three nights...

Apples and Oranges

John 2:19 Yeshua answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

Yeshua makes two similar statements in Matthew 12 & 16

Matthew 12:8 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”

39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Notice!

Matthew 13:1 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

Notice: three days

Matthew 15:32 Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”

15:39 And He sent away the multitude, got into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala.

Matthew 16:1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; 3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.

Notice in Matthew 16 there’s no mention of ‘three days and nights’, that’s because there are three days and three nights between these two statements!

The ‘heart’ of the earth is the region of Galilee not the grave.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So, is your treasure (in) the grave?

So what’s the ‘sign of the prophet Yonah? Glad you asked...

2 Kings 14:25 He was the one who restored the boundaries of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Dead Sea, in accordance with the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.

The restored borders of Israel, 1967

Yeshua and Yonah

Luke 8:22 Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. 23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!”

Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”

And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

Yonah and Yeshua, on the sea in a storm, both asleep, but two very different endings...

So who are the wicked and adulterous? Aren't they in the same group? Ah Jezebel, See: Revelation 2:20-23

WHY the ticky-tacky over days?

I see Christ’s passion/death started the moment of the entrance into the agony in the garden.

3 days right there.
