Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Gospel of John

(New Testament)

John 20

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

(End of Scripture Passage)

When we see or hear something that is unbelievable, our logical minds struggle to come up with a logical explanation. This is actually a GOOD thing, otherwise we would misinterpret nearly EVERYTHING as "magical". We may think that this is a modern, enlightened quality, but look at Mary Magdeline! She has seen the empty tomb, and assumes that The Lord's body has been stolen. Then she sees the Lord Himself and thinks He's the gardener. The second that Jesus says her name she knows! And then, the first thing she does is tell the Disciples, who are also slow to accept the Truth.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today is my 66th Birthday. As you know by now, it has been a crummy birthday for me, having endured a week of bizarre symptoms. I finally sought out my doctor and was diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. I missed my own birthday party, had to cancel an important dental visit, lost a day's pay, and, worst of all didn't post this thread! (You know it had to be bad, because I have managed to keep posting for 8 years through hurricanes, sudden widowhood, loss of my home, death of both parents, etc, and only stopped when I didn't have Internet available. I don't say this to brag because I LOVE doing it!)

TOMORROW is a better birthday anyway. On October 18th, 1981, I was born again. That makes me a youthful 37!

The point I am making is that Mary Magdeline thought Jesus was the gardener until He spoke to her. I thought that Jesus was a great Teacher, Philosopher, "ascended master" or maybe a space alien before He spoke to me!

So we shouldn't be harsh with Mary M. because she didn't believe right away. Jesus even said that we could not believe unless the Father draw him or her. So, "Today, when you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts..."

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance..” Psalm 33 NASB

God Bless America!

So sorry you have developed Lyme’s Disease. I hope and pray the doctors can do much to keep it at bay in your everyday life. I have another FRiend who was diagnosed several years ago and it still persists at times. Bless you on your birthday in spite of it all!

“Settled science” would pontificate that Mary’s first impression that Jesus was just the gardener is the right conclusion. And those that question that His body was stolen “science deniers.”

Yet, He is Lord of creation and victorious over death.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.

I’ve always thought it interesting that all four gospels have Jesus revealing his resurrection to a woman, even knowing of her coming struggle to be believed.

I have an interesting book on “Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor”. Not an overtly religious text, but in it I’ve slid a program for “A Eucharist Observing The Feast Day Of St. Mary Magdalene” 24 JUL 1996.

It was at a radical Episcopal church I no longer attend, but it was an okay service, if one could keep track of who was actually being prayed to.

Glad you’re on the road to wellness once more, as evidenced by your posting, which I so enjoy reading every day.

Happy Birthday once more.

Be yet the stronger in His Providence.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Noli Me Tangere"
Antonio da Correggio - c. 1518

_ UT Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

And they say unto her, Woman, why
weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have
taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.

And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
