People on Twitter are calling out President Donald Trump for failing to recite the Apostles’ Creed at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush on Wednesday.

Footage from the event shows much of the church, including the former presidents seated with Trump, standing to recite the profession of faith.

I don’t think Trump’s Church has this prayer as part of its creed—isn’t he Dutch Reform Protestant? He would be a hypocrite to say something he didn’t believe.

I honestly think they didn’t realize it was written in program and meant to be recited. Our President and First Lady do not have a history of church attendance. They stood and bowed their heads and prayed along in their hearts.
My guess is they actually listened to the words. The others were reading for show without understanding.

There is no “Church” declared in any part of the scriptures.

"... on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will never overcome it" comes to mind. And all of Paul's letters to various churches. And the warnings to the churches in the book of Revelation. Just to name a few.

A great many do not recite it and NONE speak to the “Catholic” church when they do speak the Creed.

In the Apostles Creed, the word catholic is lower cased c.

The Creed is not Biblical, anyway.

Which part?

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
(ecumenical version)

Leftists are so cute when they pretend to care about anything religious.

They just love to take the moral high ground when it suits them.

I go to Catholic Church and I don’t sing and I don’t recite the prayers verbally or even mouthing it at all. That doesn’t make me a heathen. Society is regressing at a rapid pace by snowflakes.

Get a grip folks. The current President did not recite it out of deference to Muslims so as to not offend them.

No, “on this rock (himself) I will expand my Kehillah.”

His Kehillah had existed for 4000 years at that time, so obviously he was not creating it.

Just so you know, the change to the Nicene Creed’s words, in English, weren’t really a “change” per se but rather a re-translation of the Creed from Latin to English.

The Nicene Creed we all grew up with (in the 60’s and 70’s and 80’s) was horribly translated, so in fact Benedict did a huge favor for the Church in having it retranslated for the English. What we have now is much closer to the sense when it was originally composed than what we had before and in fact, in other languages (especially the Romance languages) it wasn’t re-translated at all because their version was already acceptable. So now the English is more in line with the other languages and the Latin itself.

So you should learn it and say it. You give the responses at other points in the Mass too right? Those too were recently re-translated for the same reason. So no reason to not learn the “new” (or really more original) Creed. It’s not that hard.

I fully expected someone to bring the Athanasian Creed up if this discussion went on very long.
It’s a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma (thanks, Sir Winston) and it attempts to explain how one thing can be three things and yet be one thing. I don’t know if a mere mortal can get their brain around this - I can’t! I’m just going to wait and one day it will be my time to find out the answer, at least I hope so.

“Catholic” means universal. Not the “Roman Catholic” church.

“Bill is a Baptist and I don’t believe they recite it.”

I was born and raised Baptist.
Never heard of an Apostles Creed until today.
IMVHO President Trump was right not to say it, read it or whatever. Sounds like a cult creed to me.
