This was such an interesting period in the Persian (Parthian / Sasanian) Empire. The Persians initially welcomed Christianity but gradually saw it as a tool of Rome to disrupt their empire and started persecuting Christians. Any military defeat at the hands of Rome was blamed on Christians. The Persians tried to create a holy war to inspire and unify their population where a holy war really didn’t exist.
