David’s Last Words

23 These are the last words of David:

“The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse,
    the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High,
the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
    the hero of Israel’s songs:

2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me;
    his word was on my tongue.
3 The God of Israel spoke,
    the Rock of Israel said to me:
‘When one rules over people in righteousness,
    when he rules in the fear of God,
4 he is like the light of morning at sunrise
    on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
    that brings grass from the earth.’

5 “If my house were not right with God,
    surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant,
    arranged and secured in every part;
surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation
    and grant me my every desire.
6 But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns,
    which are not gathered with the hand.
7 Whoever touches thorns
    uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear;
    they are burned up where they lie.”

David was able to establish temple Worship in Jerusalem, with its Priests, Attendants, and Musicians. It would be his son Solomon, however, who would actually build the Temple on the place where the Tabernacle stood.

Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Are Holy, Righteous and Just,

For Your Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
Almighty and Omnipresent,
You Are The GREAT I AM,
The Rock of Ages,

LORD, We ask that You fill the leaders of the USA with Your Spirit,
that they may make Holy and Righteous decisions.
Comfort and heal those whose lives have been touched by Violence,
And please expose and correct those who use lies to further their own political agenda.
Bring the Truth To Light, Abba Father,
And expose all the Liars!

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Buried deep in this History Section of the Holy Bible, and somewhat out of context, is this brief song called "The Last Words of David". The Scriptures do not indicate if these were "Last Words" as we think of them on a deathbed, or the close of a speech, or the final remarks at the Ceremony of the Return of the Ark to the Tabernacle. In any case, these words are positively musical in their arrangement, so it may have been a song. Let's look at these "Last Words".

“The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse,
the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High,
the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
the hero of Israel’s songs:

What a great introduction! The first thing we see is the Testimony that the following words are inspired by God, spoken by the man God has anointed to lead Israel. It also testifies to David's prowess as both a Warrior and a MUSICIAN.

2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me;
his word was on my tongue.
3 The God of Israel spoke,
the Rock of Israel said to me:
‘When one rules over people in righteousness,
when he rules in the fear of God,
4 he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings grass from the earth.’

In this first verse of the Song (and I call it a "song" because it actually scans like one) David gives us a bit of insight of how the Spirit of God inspires the Prophetic Utterances of His Anointed Prophets. Then, David speaks words about government, and how crucial it is that leaders are led by the Spirit of God in their dealings. Righteousness exalts a nation, and brings victory, prosperity, and peace. Conversely, corruption will bring shame, dishonor, violence, and misery. World Leaders would do well to heed this 2500-year-old advice.

5 “If my house were not right with God,

surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation
and grant me my every desire.
6 But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns,
which are not gathered with the hand.
7 Whoever touches thorns
uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear;
they are burned up where they lie.”

David correctly attributes his Prosperity and Power to God, thanks Him for His salvation, and closes with a warning to those who would rebel against the Most High.

We know from our recent study of 1 & 2 Samuel that David was not a perfect man, therefore, he was totally reliant upon God's Grace and Tender Mercies.
