Devout Catholics swing the other way
WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - A new research poll shows that self-identified Catholics on the whole favor Biden over Trump for president.
An EWTN News/RealClear Opinion Research Poll released on Monday finds that the priorities of Catholics, like the greater population, have been affected by the Wuhan virus pandemic and shutdowns. It also concludes a large disparity between cultural Catholics and faithful Catholics.
RealClearPolitics' Washington bureau chief Carl M. Cannon noted the trend that the more devout the Catholic is, the more he or she is likely to vote for President Trump.
"The most observant Roman Catholics still tend to support Donald Trump and the Republican Party, as do large majorities of white evangelical Protestants — and are among the most highly motivated voters," he said. "But the question for the GOP is whether there are enough of these voters to make up the difference."
The research study generally divided Catholics into three categories — those who hardly ever attend Mass, those who attend Mass weekly, and those who attend Mass more than weekly and pray regularly. The conclusions saw a large disparity between the divisions — i.e., between cultural Catholics, cafeteria Catholics, and the faithful Catholics.
Cannon's question, on whether there are enough faithful Catholic voters to make up the difference in November, is an important one. Especially for the battleground states.
Cultural Catholics, those self-identified Catholics who do not practice their religion in any consistent way, were far more likely to vote Democrat than non-Catholics. Faithful Catholics are of the highest percentage of voters that are voting for the Trump-Pence ticket.

Totally not surprised at all.
Like other polls that fail to demonstrate Trump’s lead over Biden, this poll is wrong. Catholics, if they truly are, will vote for Trump.
No one who votes for killing babies is a Christian.
Cultural Catholics like Cultural Jews are people who claim they are Catholic but, support Abortion on Demand and rarely if ever attend church. They use their Catholicism as a shield when it is convenient for them politically.
In other words, they are CINO.
I have to hand it to the Left ... they realized that it's better to co-opt and corrupt things ... change them ... 'fundamentally' ... and leave them with their same name.
Not, of course, that the Catholic church needed help being corrupted.
That said, while a rose by any other name is still a rose, a rose that has been replace by poop is still a rose, but it's no longer that thing in the place where the 'rose' sign is pointing.
In software, we must understand the fundamental difference between a pointer and the thing to which it points.
They should be referred to as Baptized, non-worshipping Catholics.... and that will resolve any confusion...
Needs to flip about 5% of those who currently favor Biden if he wants to win the Upper Midwest.
Tough, but doable, especially as more people continue to see who Biden really is.
I suppose I’m what you might call a cultural Catholic being that I don’t really attend Mass much if at all.
The booger eating morons that would be under the same cultural Catholic umbrella might be prone to vote for somebody like Biden, but I certainly am not.
If it isn’t patently obvious already to even the most casual observer, Biden represents the lowest common denominator of non-thinking people.
The media and how they portray Trump is the biggest issue, because they hold sway with The uninformed masses, and that is an extremely large contingent which seems to be ever-growing.
The biggest liberals I know are catholic. They say they hate abortion but hate trump more. Almost everyone of them have a family member or friend who is gay. If the priest don’t speak the truth to them, God will hold them accountable.

I don’t understand Catholics. MOST that I know are very liberal, pro abortion, and would vote for pedo/rapistJoe in a heartbeat while declaring that all lives matter/#metoo.

Apparently, you can be a Catholic but not a Christian. I have heard it with my own ears that not all Catholics will be saved.
“Cultural Catholics” is PC code speak for apostates.
White Catholics are majority conservative. Hispanics, most of whom are immigrants or relatively new, favor Democrats.
The longer immigrants are in the country, the more likely they are to vote Republican. For example, there was a time when Italian Americans and Irish Americans were overwhelmingly Democrats. Now both are majority Republicans.

I’ve been seeing lots of “cut and paste” posts on FB from Catholics that start with, “I keep seeing Christians say they can’t vote for Joe Biden because of his stance on abortion. I’ve seen Christians proudly state they are single-voter issues - it all comes down to abortion. So they’ll vote for Trump. Because he promises to appoint Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade. That’s the one and only thing that matters.” The post goes on to explain how Trump is WAY worse than abortion because he puts kids in cages, doesn’t respect those who come across our borders illegally, etc. In other words, they equate the taking of an innocent human life (abortion) with the legally upheld laws regarding who and how immigrants many may enter a country. But, ultimately, in the end, they proclaim that being pro-choice means they care about human life.
In my brain I am screaming, “Pro-choice means dead babies, no matter how you feel about immigrants.”
Sigh.
My sister-in-law and her husband are rabid catholics who oppose abortion. He goes to church every morning. They live in Cali and vote straight-line democrat every election.
That’s great! But, that’s not the point. The article distinguishes them from Cultural Catholics. Or, CINO’s. The CINO’s vote democrat no matter what. Because they are not Religious Catholics. They were born into a Catholic household but, they vote against every traditional Catholic precept. Only when challenged on their anti-Catholic actions do they attempt to fend off that observation with, how dare you question my religion? It’s not their religion. It’s their feeble shield of convenience.
Cultural Catholics are also fully onboard with the homosexual agenda, probably because many including priests are active homosexuals.
