White 'born-again' leaders trade gospel for identity politics
CAROL STREAM, Illinois (ChurchMilitant.com) - Elite white evangelicals have launched vicious attacks on Trump 'deplorables,' claiming that the Capitol Hill "atrocity" was "brought to us by the white, evangelical church in America."
Belying the religious, racial and class diversity of Trump's supporters, evangelicals like clergywoman Tish Harrison Warren are accusing the "white American church" and the "heresy of Christian nationalism" for the Epiphany protest.
Parade of Trump-Bashers
Writing in the flagship evangelical magazine Christianity Today (CT), Warren noted that "the symbols of faith — Jesus' name, cross and message — have been co-opted to serve the cultish end of Trumpism."
CT, started by world-famous evangelist Dr. Billy Graham, called for Trump to be impeached and removed from office in 2019 "out of loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments."
A celebrity lineup of white evangelicals from megachurch pastors John Piper and Rick Warren to Baptist ethicist Russell Moore to TV preacher Beth Moore and missiologist Ed Stetzer — who remained largely silent during months of Black Lives Matter rioting, arson and vandalism — are condemning Trump and his loyalists as the foot soldiers of an idolatrous insurrection.
The evangelical leaders freeze out the significant portion of Trump-voting Catholics who made their presence at the Capitol Hill rally felt by praying the Rosary and carrying large crosses, as well as non-white pro-Trump celebrities with substantial online audiences.

She’s talking about people who read their Bible and support or oppose things based on that- how dare they! A very minor proportion may be what she calls “Christian Nationalists” most just believe in right and wrong, good and evil, reliance on God and not the state, hard work and self determination. Once again, how dare they.
Agreed and they will pay a price in the end
These false prophets are serving the wrong master.
Wow. When i glanced at the title i thought babylon bee. Night is day and day is night. Damn crazy times.
Time for a resurgence of the term “It’s the Christian thing to do” also “Brothers (being family member of) in Christ”
Tax all Churches!
Well. Isn’t that special!
Big Religion, just like Big Anything sucks.
amazon, walmart, twitter, facebook, Big corporations, Big political parties, all too big.
Hence the United States of America as opposed to just America. They had Big Religion, namely the Church of England and it sucked.
Oh, wait, a new King/Queen. We’re Protestant now instead of Catholic(or visa versa but still singularly controlled). Time to learn the new rules.
Big Religion decided bringing in “refugees” from Syria and surrounding countries was more important then their flock here. More concerned with money than their own people. Lot of that going around.
The brand of ‘evangelicals’ quoted in the story are strangers to scripture and God.
CT used to be a solidly Christian periodical but then started conforming to the world rather than the Word of God. It’s a soul sickness that many church leaders, not just evangicals, have caught.
Beth Moore has been anti-Trump for quite a while, now.
She tweeted many things about his demeanor, etc., over the past months.
Caught a LOT of heck, for doing so, but that hasn’t stopped her from showing her (new??) true colors.
“ye shall know them by their fruits” - attacking the people who supported the President who has done more for Christians and Jews than any in my lifetime, and that includes Reagan.
It shows their stupidity when they paint MAGA supporters with a broad brush. What happened to the Golden Rule?
‘evangelical flagship Christianity Today’... You’ve got to be kidding me. More like the Laodicean Flagship.
Beth Moore and Rick Warren are all about money and themselves, part of the falling away. Not true Evangelicals who preach repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ. Listening to them and Christianity Today will hurt your Christian walk, so not surprised they’re turning on patriots.
I’m gonna pray for Tish Harrison Warren.
Fixed it.
“Tax all Churches?”
...and doing so will accomplish exactly what?
Dry up a goodly portion of contributions perhaps?
Further enrich those we seem to be constantly fighting to preserve what liberty remains?
Give even more power of Mammon to the Government that seeks to oppress us?
I could go on, and on.
Pay for the illegal immigrants they want to come into this country, for starters.
Stopped reading at “clergywoman”.
