AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — An email defending a dress code at a local Catholic school has prompted a family to pull their kids out right before the start of the year.
Abby and Patrick McInerney had every intention of sending both their 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son to St. Pius X in Aurora this year. Their son was excited to see the friends he’d made there last year, too.
The Archdiocese of Denver tells the Problem Solvers, St. Pius X is in the process of phasing in a new dress code one grade at a time. It started with kindergarten girls last year, wearing skirts or jumpers, now the code is expanding to first graders this year.
However, the dress code isn’t the issue for the McInerney family, they take issue with the new explanation for it, recently sent in an email to families.
“I went to Catholic preschool, grade school, high school and a Catholic college so I was absolutely fine with uniforms but it was the qualification,” Abby McInerney said.
McInerney provided the email to the Problem Solvers. In the paragraph reminding families about the new dress code expansion, it states the following :
“As a reminder to families with GIRLS in kindergarten and first grade, your daughter must wear a skirt or jumper in our school plaid each day. Pants and shorts are not allowed for girls in kindergarten and first grade. Our world sends very confusing messages to our kids, telling them that they can choose their own gender. We work to help our kids embrace the gender God has given them at birth. One way to do this is to help them learn to dress for their gender. Let’s face it, men and women dress differently, even if they are both wearing pants! By.................

These parents can KMA!
The school doesn’t need those parents. I feel bad for those kids.
And I'm not Catholic!
Agreed thr school is better off without these nitwits
The phrase, you can’t fix stupid comes to mind. The school is far better without such people involved with it. I just feel very badly for their children.
A Catholic school teaching Catholic beliefs. What?????? s/off
So those kids will end up going to a probably crappy public school instead? Great parenting. /s
Stupid parents. And the kids don’t understand what just happened.
If the result is the same what difference does it make?
The explanation makes perfectly good sense.
Is that what they object to?
When I was a child respectable women would never wear slacks or cut their hair shorter than shoulder length.
“The explanation makes perfectly good sense.”
As a seasoned citizen who is fully qualified to use phrases like “back when I grew up”, I agree with you and would note that it also made perfectly good sense in a broad part of the world until about 1970. That was the year of the public school dress code shift in the KS small-town of my birth and schooling through HS. Until then, school-age females were expected to wear dresses/skirts and pants/jeans were strictly prohibited.
The Catholic School is right here. The parents are the ones in the wrong.
We had dress codes in the grammar school and high school I attended in Rochester, NY during the 50’s and 60’s. Girls had to wear dresses, jumpers, skirts with a blouse...no culottes or slacks. Boys had to wear slacks (no jeans) and a shirt (no T-shirts).
“We work to help our kids embrace the gender God has given them>
Fine. True. But leftists will get upset with the above reason and say, “Who says God gives a gender to each child?”
Better: We encourage dresses for girls and slacks for boys, because we prefer to honor the history of our school and incorporate rules from the past with our present rules. Each child can choose two of the six uniforms from our proud history.”
I support the school’s decision, but they could have used some editing. There was no reason for that long winded, opinionated explanation. The rules should simply have been stated, then followed by a period.
Now the Liberal parents are all tangled up and blue on whether they accept the logic of the explanation. If they are that simpleminded, then let them go back to the Govt. run schools with CRT and ‘flexible’ grading systems. They are not worthy of a good school right now.
Nice to see it’s the parents, and not the school, being the nutters. Pray for their 2 girls and son.
Buh Bye!
Maybe what the parents are really afraid of is that Creepy Pedo Joe will hear about it, and want to meet the 4year old girl in her little short skirt Catholic School Girl’s Uniform.
I fail to see what is wrong with the explanation.
Glad the parents were smart enough to leave that school so they won’t contaminate it.
Prayers needed for their children.
And the problem is?
