To: Hebrews 11:6

I hang on every word, as do the angels.

Thanks for your nice reply.

Here's an oddly-related theme I tripped over last night:

I was minding my own business, investigating the word "napkin" (context and Italians included for a reason you shall soon see)...

John 20

1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin [4676], that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

In Hebrew, the word map [מפה, mapa] is not derived from English "map", but a word meaning napkin:

Klein's:

מַפָּה f.n. PBH 1 napkin, flag, tablecloth. PBH 2 wrapper around a scroll. NH 3 map. [From manpā, contraction of PBH מְנָפָה (= streaming cloth, banner), lit. ‘that which is moved to and fro’, from נוף (= to move to and fro; to swing). L. mappa (= napkin, tablecloth; signal cloth), is borrowed from Heb.-Punic מַפָּה. cp. ‘map’ and ‘nappe’ in my CEDEL.] Derivatives: מַפָּאוּת, מפה, מַפּוֹן, מַפִּית.

I had been merely curious if the Greek word were also related to a map, especially because of the wording of the verse. I haven't yet gotten into a thorough investigation because I was "side"tracked:

My own default search program doesn't care about H and G, it just accepts a number and returns both Hebrew and Greek Strong's entries (unless I bother to narrow the search, but that's one more step).

The point is that when I was searching "map" locations for 4676, this was where I was dropped (verses 18 and 22), context and Italians included so you can see what I mean:

I hang on every word, as do the angels:

Genesis 28

12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar [4676], and poured oil upon the top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar [4676], shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Well that went weird immediately, especially because of the pillar: מצבה (gravestone, monument, tombstone, stone, pillar). Same is used as another name for the HALMOS tombstone.

Jewish traditions teach that this is the bone from which the body will be rebuilt at the time of resurrection, and share the idea that this bone does not decay.

Luz

It's all got a real "SHALOM!" vibe to it, eh?

Cannot help surmising you will occupy a position of some importance while exercising your gift in one of heaven’s research-and-correlation institutes, where you will interact with a cornucopia of fascination.
