The Spirit is simply where it shows up on any given day.

Jesus talked often about how he would give his followers the gift of the Holy Spirit after his death, resurrection, and ascension.
The Holy Spirit was not a new member of the Trinity, but it came to be understood in a different way. We know that the Spirit of God hovered over the waters at the dawn of creation. In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God came upon prophets or kings to anoint them. Perhaps the most well-known, or moving Old Testament passage about the Spirit of God is Isaiah 61 where Isaiah says, “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners…”
Before Jesus, the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of God came to individuals at God’s behest. It was not a gift given freely to all, but rather one that was given in specific moments.
Jesus upended the function and gift of the Holy Spirit. Suddenly, the gift of the Spirit was available to everyone through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are given gifts to serve the church and our community. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that we are transformed.
Theologian A.W. Tozer writes, “Holiness, as taught in the Scriptures, is not based upon knowledge on our part. Rather, it is based upon the resurrected Christ in-dwelling us and changing us into His likeness.”
