Please pray for Fidelis battling cancer
Posted on 08/30/2023 6:51:58 AM PDT by annalex
Fidelis asks for our prayers. He is starting chemo therapy and is unable to continue his daily contribution to the Mass readings.
Daily, Fidelis used to make posts from Navarre Bible Commentary with excellent analysis of the Bible readings of the day. You can see one here: Catholic Caucus: Daily Mass Readings 21-August-2023, posts 13, 14, 15. These will be greatly missed.
Fidelis is also asking for financial support. Please visit his GoFundMe page and learn more about this wonderful man.
gofundme.com Let us pray.
Lord Jesus Christ, grant Thy servant Vince (Fidelis) complete healing and restore his ability to teach all of us. Give him strength, o Lord.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, in the company of saints in Heaven, amen.

Thank you all for the kind words and especially your prayers. Just a short update.
My first chemo treatment went well at first, but due to my body's sensitivity to one of the ingredients, I went into almost complete kidney failure. I spent a week in ICU and the hospital. By then my body was so weakened, I had to spend a week in a rehab facility. I was then sent home to have home rehab. I managed to gain a lot of strength and stamina, and was making good progress. Of course during this time my chemo was put on hold.
I resumed chemo a few weeks ago but, again, there was another setback and was back in the hospital. I had developed an infection in my lower GI tract which caused a bowel obstruction. Because of my "dire" condition, they considered surgery, but didn't dare because my WBC count was so low. They opted to treat it with antibiotics and after more than a week in the hospital, I was released to come home (day before yesterday). So now I am back to regaining my strength. I am scheduled to resume chemo in about two weeks.

Hi Vince,
I offer prayers but also want to tell you about tough side effects that I did endure going through two rounds of Chemotherapy and surgery for stage 3 stomach cancer from July 2019 to May 2020.
I took very strong chemo and had a lot of side effects and still have some nerve damage etc today. But I killed all the cancer and scanned again about six weeks ago and am still cancer free.
Get your oncologist and other medical doctors best advice and follow it.

Thank you, KC - Yes, my oncologist started out by treating me aggressively, but it was the wrong mix for my particular physiology, I guess. My oncologist is smart and attentive and I'm sure we'll hit the right balance as we proceed cautiously.
Thank God for your remission, and my prayer for you is that you remain cancer-free and live the longest, best life possible. God bless you.

Very sorry to read of these setbacks. The beginning of the treatment was the scariest and hardest part for me. It was the same time of year too. I remembered that Emmanuel means “ God is with us” and was comforted by that through the season.
Prayers up for you and your family.

Thank you all for your continued prayers. Just I short update: I've gained a lot of my strength back after my second stint in the hospital. My recovery is steadily proceeding: I'm gaining weight, walking unassisted, driving by myself, my appetite is coming back, and I'm sleeping better. My stamina still is not where it needs to be and I still need to get injections to keep up my WBC. I'm about half way through my 12 planned chemo infusions so I had a CT scan last week. It showed that my smaller cancer spots are shrinking, while the one large spot I have has remained unchanged, neither growing or shrinking, but in any case not spreading. I see this as a positive and I thank God for it.
Thanks again for all the prayers, and please keep them coming!
