Father, Thank You for this new year. Although we don't have much reason to anticipate it going to be a good year for our country, we thank You and rejoice in the fact that You are a God of new things and some day will make all things new. And when You do new things, they are awesome and truly new.
We ask for our country and its deep spiritual needs, that Your Holy Spirit would move in hearts and minds in people across the country to reconcile them to You. For believers, bring us into ever closer relationship with You and increasing Christlikeness in our character and lives. Give us hearts of repentance and grief over sin and gratitude for ALL the blessings You bestow on us.
For those who are not yet saved, may Your Holy Spirit do His work of conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgment in their lives and bring them to a saving knowledge of You. Remove from their hearts and minds the blindness with which Satan has blinded them and let them clearly see the Truth of Your word and Your great love for them.
Let this be a year of new beginnings for all of us. In Jesus' name.

Amen to your prayer and scripture. Yes, it is easy to dwell on n the past and be disappointed by what we see happening to our nation, but even in darkness you are still with us. So Lord, we pray that these are merely birth pains for a new beginning and a rebirth of faith in Jesus
