Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
The Scriptures In Handel’s Messiah
Romans 10:15
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Our Father,
Who Art In Heaven,
Hallowed Be Thy Name!
How We Long For Your Kingdom to Come,
When Your Will Shall be Done Here on Earth
Just As It Is In Heaven.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

My Dear Friend "Z" sent me a picture she found from the Ninth Grade. It was a picture of me holding up a poster I had made. At the time, I had won an Art Contest, for a design I had done for an anti-vandalism poster for Boston's Subway System. (The MBTA). The MBTA had just had a rash of vandalism that not only cost the taxpayers a lot of money, but also had caused some accidents and injuries. The theme of the contest was "Vandalism Costs Lives and Money". It wasn't a very exciting slogan, but I illustrated it with a shower of gold coins raining down, with a stylized family (mom, dad, and two kids) superimposed on the coins. I won a hundred bucks and got to see my poster on all the buses and subways cars in Boston for a few years.
Every time I saw my poster I cringed, because I had not given the family any FEET. Feet were hard to draw, so I made the figure's legs end in little points. Evidently the judges thought this was "Modern Art", but the truth was, I couldn't draw FEET. I was comforted by the fact that, although I loved the art of Ancient Egypt, they had a hard time drawing feet as well, so I wasn't alone.
However, if i was ever to make a living in Graphic Design, I was going to have to learn to draw feet. (And so, I ended up being a Musician instead! Ha Ha)
This short, but lovely chorus speaks of the Good News going out to all the known world.
Before we wonder about how such a thing could have happened before the age of radio and telecommunications, there are a few things to consider. A few centuries earlier, Alexander the Great had conquered the entire region all the way to India. (He got bogged down in Afghanistan...why does that sound familiar?). Greek Language and Culture became well known all across Asia, and the language of business and commerce was Greek. In the Book of The Acts of the Apostles, Paul is shown conversing and orating in at least three languages, Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The Placard that Pilate put on the Cross had its message in these three languages, and even the Rosetta Stone, which deciphered Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics had its message in Greek. The Ancient Jewish Scholars translated the Entire Hebrew Scriptures into Greek as well, and called this monumental work "The Septuagint", after the 70 men who did the translating.
The Entire New Testament is written in Greek. It is not the "Classical" Greek of the Ancients, but a form of commercial, common Greek that all could understand. Along with the excellent Roman Roads of the time, and the navigational skills of Mediterranean Seafaring Peoples, conditions were perfect for spreading the Word. It was still difficult, and people received news and messages with great joy and anticipation, unlike today, where we take communications for granted.
But, the way people communicated back in Ancient Times was by Letter or by Messenger. And those were carried around by FEET.
Here's The Link.

Ancient messengers had to be strong.
They couldn't be effete, and not easily defeated.
They had to resist the temptation to be pedantic.
Sometimes they would ride, but were usually pedestrians.
These were the common features of a messenger.

Psalm 45
To the leader: according to Lilies. Of the Korahites. A Maskil. A love song.
1 My heart overflows with a goodly theme;
I address my verses to the king;
my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.
2 You are the most handsome of men;
grace is poured upon your lips;
therefore God has blessed you for ever.
3 Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one,
in your glory and majesty.
4 In your majesty ride on victoriously
for the cause of truth and to defend* the right;
let your right hand teach you dread deeds.
5 Your arrows are sharp
in the heart of the king’s enemies;
the peoples fall under you.
6 Your throne, O God,* endures for ever and ever.
Your royal sceptre is a sceptre of equity;
7 you love righteousness and hate wickedness.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;
8 your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia.
From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad;
9 daughters of kings are among your ladies of honour;
at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.
10 Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear;
forget your people and your father’s house,
11 and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your lord, bow to him;
12 the people* of Tyre will seek your favour with gifts,
the richest of the people 13with all kinds of wealth.
The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes;*
14 in many-coloured robes she is led to the king;
behind her the virgins, her companions, follow.
15 With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.
16 In the place of ancestors you, O king,* shall have sons;
you will make them princes in all the earth.
17 I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations;
therefore the peoples will praise you for ever and ever.
