Our Father Who Art In Heaven,
How Blessed, Hallowed, and Sanctified
Is Your Most Holy Name!
We Worship You,
And You Alone,
For You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe!
Forgive us, LORD,
if we ever elevate ourselves above You in our own estimation!
Forgive us for our Pride and Hubris!

Abba, Father,
Number us NOT with those
who whisper lies to Your People.
Those who say "Peace and Safety" out loud,
but who inwardly plot against You and Your Beloved!
We ask You to Intervene in the Affairs of Nations,
And Change the Direction of Our Own.
We Plead With You,
That Our Leaders will be Led by Your Holy Spirit
and Your Eternal Word,
with regards to Our Own Country's Policies Towards Jerusalem,
Israel and Our Other Allies,
Freedom of Speech,
Freedom of Religion,
and The Bill of Rights,
Or That You Will Remove Them.
We Also Pray that you will remove the spirit of idolatry
That has invaded the politics of our Nation.
We beg For You To Replace The leaders Who Seize Power
Only to feed Their own EGOS,
and NOT to Serve the People.
We Plead That Your Will be Done,
On Earth, As It Is In Heaven

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins

Standing in the rain for two solid hours to get into a movie theater didn't seem like a fun way to spend my time. But my husband really wanted to see this particular new movie, that was supposed to have a great story and wonderful special effects. By the time we sloshed up to the Box Office to get our tickets, I was prepared to hate the movie, whatever it turned out to be. (I was a wee bit vexed at hubby for dragging me out for a Sci-Fi movie, which wasn't even my favorite genre at the time.)

If you remember the movies of the late 60's and early 70's, you may recall that Hollywood went through a very dark period. In a search for meaning, the darker side of humanity was featured, and a new kind of character called the "Antihero" was born. In some movies, the protagonist was as wicked as the enemy. If he or she wasn't totally evil, the "Good Guy" was at least conflicted about morality, which, perhaps, at first added drama and interest to the story. However, when it got to the point that the lines became so blurred that I didn't like anybody in the story, the movies became dark, depressing, amoral, and, worst of all, BORING!

As I stood in line in the rain outside the Charles Cinema in Boston I was fully prepared to hate the movie, however good it may have turned out to be.

The year was 1977, and by now I think you may have figured out that the Movie was the original Star Wars.

From the Opening "Crawl" (which became a Star Wars trademark), GOOD and EVIL were sharply defined. The Bad Guys wore Black, and the Good Guys wore White. The Bad Guys did heinous things like Mind-Control, Enslavement, and Blowing Up Planets, and the Good Guys were Freedom Fighters. There was even an Awesome Battle Scene that was modeled upon old films of The Battle of Midway.

There was a religious element to the movie, which described the constant conflict between Good and Evil as the struggle for The Force to achieve balance. George Lucas, the director, said in an interview that "The Force" wasn't any particular religion, but it bears a striking resemblance to the Eastern doctrine of the Yin and The Yang. It also is similar to an Early Christian heresy called "Dualism".

Even though I was thoroughly primed to hate the movie, I ended up loving it. Little did I realize that it would eventually deteriorate to the point where it has become just another Disney Franchise, and that "The Force" was actually the result of nanoparticles in the bloodstream of the Jedi. (Grrrrr). That ended my relationship with Star Wars.

Because I didn't know Biblical Truth at the time, "The Force" seemed to make sense. In fact"May The Force Be With You" became a common idiom in our own culture, and is still used today, 47 years later. May the Fourth has been set aside as "Star Wars Day" (May the Fourth be with you"), and the Franchise still makes millions of dollars worldwide from spin-off products.

Unfortunately, seeing God as a "force" robs Him of His Personality. The most egregious example of this is the belief that The Holy Spirit is a "Force".

From the very first Chapter in Genesis, we are introduced to The Holy Spirit (Ruach Ha Kodesh) as a Person rather than just a "force". The Creation Account pictures The Spirit of God (Ruach Elohim) "hovering over the waters". The opening line of Genesis indicates a plural subject with a singular verb. The God says "Let Us make" which indicates a conversation.

This conversation affirms the Personhood of the Holy Spirit.

Just when you thought that The Holy Spirit is a NEW Testament concept, we see many references to Him in the words of Isaiah. Today's Scripture Portion describes Him as being "vexed" or "grieved". This is NOT the same thing as "a disturbance in the force" which was caused by millions of persons crying out in agony (From Star Wars). A "force" doesn't feel. A person does. A force can't be vexed, or grieved, or filled with Wisdom, Knowledge, Counsel, and Love. A "force" is not capable of Comforting, Advising, or the Giving of Gifts. Most of all, a "force" isn't capable of LOVE.

And so, on this non-Star Wars Day, I will say:

"May The LORD (Holy Spirit) Be With You,"
