Having explained on the road the inevitability of the Christ’s suffering to the two “fools”, Jesus accepts their earnest invitation to stay with them at their home in Emmaus. Still, they are prevented from recognizing Him—until He breaks bread for their meal. Suddenly, they realize Who their companion and instructor has been! And in that moment, Jesus disappears.
