[history]
The Roman Catholic bishop of Arlington has told a local priest that he will be permanently suspended from the diocese for obeying a subpoena to testify in a civil lawsuit about another priest's adultery with a parishioner's wife.
Bishop Paul S. Loverde informed the Rev. James R. Haley in an Oct. 28 formal notice that he is being removed for violating a gag order a year ago, which barred him from disclosing wrongdoing by priests in order "to avoid scandal, to maintain ecclesiastical discipline and to protect the reputation and privacy of both the faithful and priests of this diocese."

This is softball compared with the way the game has been played. Remember that both St. Ignatius and St. Teresa fell under the scrutiny of the Inquisition. St. John of the Cross did some of his best work in the dunmgeon where he had been confined by his religious superior. In the interests of charity, Father should pray for the soul of the bishop. In the interests of justice. he should sue, so that the bishop can more easily see where his folly has lead him.

Or as they say on the south side "youz guys". The Wisconsin variant on that is "youse guys".

Your posts sound an aweful lot like another Freeper who was banned this spring and went by the screen name "No_particular_harbor" (if I remember correctly.)
He had been a victim of priestly abuse and left Catholicism and used exactly the same rhetoric and slander as you do here on multiple Catholic threads lately. You signed up around the time he disappeared
Catholic caucus, ignore this a$$ regardless. Just my humble advice, of course.

I was just reading the deposition by Fr. Haley that nina0113 linked:
http://www.rcf.org/docs/loverde/deposition_menu.htm
It's absolutely incredible! I thought that there would be nothing new. How wrong I was. This stuff is mind-blowing. I'd like to post a few excerpts but there's unbelievable revelations on every page -- and it's 200 pages!
In addition to everything else, it paints a clear picture of the difference between Bishops Keating and Loverde. Apparently Keating was doing his best to deal with a huge problem. He acted quickly and vigorously on every known complaint. But there was still a huge problem in the diocese anyway. Now it appears as if the fox is guarding the henhouse.
This document is very long, but it's a page turner. It actually makes up 60 regular pages since the 200 pages of the deposition are in a very small page size. You can download a PDF version, or read it page by page on the internet.
If you thought (like me) that no new revelations of the priest scandal could shock you, read this story and you'll change your mind.
In addition to all of his firsthand experience, a homosexual pastor that Fr. Haley was serving under got the mistaken impression that Fr. Haley was gay (guess his "gaydar" was temporarily malfunctioning). As a natural gossip, and someone who was locked into the power network, he told Haley everything!
On the other hand, I can see now why Fr. Haley was suspended. He names all the names, including several other pastors besides the ones in the story, Bishop Loverde, Loverde's chancellor, and Loverde's mentor, Bishop Cronin of Connecticut. I suppose the diocese expected that Fr. Haley would be a hostile witness who would only give the bare minimum information under duress from the deposing lawyer. Boy were they mistaken!
There should be concern about the issue of causing scandal and the reliability of the witness. But remember: this is public testimony, available from the courthouse, delivered under oath, by a priest who has proven his fidelity to the Faith under difficult circumstances. And so far, every one of his public accusations has been borne out and conclusively proven to be true.

I prefer to call it "sitting under the hair dryers." And I know many men, some even claiming straight, who sit under the hair dryers a lot.
We'll take Fr. Haley. No problem. He can come here.

I don't think the Chancellor is OPH. OPH was from Kentucky, while Chancellor purports to be from Alaska. I knew OPH somewhat, and Chancellor's writing style is different.
That being said, I do think that Chancellor is a retread. I reviewed his posting history and he makes allusions to things that someone posting just since May probably wouldn't know.

Maximilian,
I just started reading it. I can not believe what I am reading. I am so horrified, and I don't think I can read through all of it (custodianship of the eyes).

Ninan and Steve,
I am reading the deposition and I am ready to do anything to help Fr. Haley. If you know any way that we can help him financially, please let me know by freepmail.
We need to organize a FReep of Loverde -- somehow, someway.

We need to organize something to put the spotlight on Bishop Loverde who is persecuting an innocent priest (Fr. Haley). Any ideas?
