From the standpoint of a potential student’s parents, it’s a lousy bargain. There are plenty of other state universities that cost less and don’t have all the baggage. I wonder what enrollment is like at Truman State and other second-tier schools in the system.

Truman State has about 7,000 students. It is somewhat selective, with an acceptance rate of 67%. Both of my daughters went there and loved it. Mizzou’s bigger concern is Missouri State, which had its second largest enrollment ever this year at 21,000 students. My son did very well there. Another school coming on strong is my alma mater, Southeast Missouri State.
