The largest financial institution in the world – the U.S. government – issued its financial statement just a few days ago, and nobody in Washington seems to care that the deficit is almost twice as large as they once thought. snip In substance-free Washington, the release of the annual financial statements of the U.S. government isn’t a big deal, but it should be. The statements demonstrate that we have gone backward, not forward, with Republicans in charge of all branches of government. According to the annual financial report of the U.S. government published by the Treasury Department, the real deficit...

A dog injured a child onboard a Southwest Airlines flight, the latest incident in the controversy over allowing emotional-support animals on planes. It happened Wednesday night while passengers were boarding a Southwest flight from Phoenix to Portland, Ore. A spokesman for the airline said the dog’s teeth scraped the girl’s forehead as she approached the animal, causing a minor injury. Southwest said paramedics examined the girl, who was later cleared to continue on the flight. The dog and its owner remained in Phoenix while the plane left about 20 minutes behind schedule. Neither the girl nor the dog’s handler was...

The Florida sheriff’s deputy who resigned in disgrace after doing nothing during last week’s massacre is seen in a 2015 video touting the crime prevention skills of school resource officers — like himself. Scot Peterson stood by an entrance to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for more than four minutes after the shooting started, but “he never went in,” Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters. The deputy was suspended without pay pending an investigation, then resigned. When asked what Peterson should have done, Israel said he should have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.” But in 2015,...

In the wake of the horrific slaughter in Parkland, Florida, a cadre of energized and understandably traumatized teenagers has flooded Washington and the airwaves to say remarkably passionate, occasionally extreme things about guns and the need for gun control. Because these teens are politically effective, a bunch of goons, buffoons and trolls have floated conspiracy theories aimed at discrediting them. I won't be more specific than that because it's all reprehensible bilge. At the same time, quite a few advocates of gun control, including many who claim the mantle of "objective" journalism, have taken the view that these kids cannot...

A press release from the city of Parkland said that Peterson was named their school resource officer of the year for 2014. The release said that Peterson had been the SRO at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School since 2009. It reads, “Deputy Peterson has proven to reliable in handling issues with tact and judgement.” It is also stated that Peterson was responsible for investigating crimes including property crimes, assaults and narcotics offenses. The release goes on to say that Peterson was active in “mentoring and counseling” students. The Sun Sentinel reports that Peterson earned $75,673.92, citing sheriff’s records. You can...

A state that already has high levels of lawlessness, super high taxes, and some of the largest poverty figures in the nation is now facing a threat that they don’t even seem to realize is a threat. California’s refusal to cooperate on immigration has sparked President Trump into making what many (at their peril) consider to be “Joking Comments.” The fact is, that there are lot of things the president can do to ensure compliance with Immigration law, but California lawmakers imagine that their friendly (complicit) courts will protect them from the government’s anger.

President Trump took a thinly veiled swipe at cancer-stricken Sen. John McCain Friday during a speech at an annual gathering of conservatives — without mentioning him by name. Trump, touting his tax reform bill that also killed the ObamaCare individual mandate that required people to buy health insurance, lamented the Affordable Health Care Act would have been repealed in its entirety if the 81-year-old Arizona Republican had not voted against repeal. “We’re having tremendous plans coming out now, health care plans, at a fraction of the cost that are much better than ObamaCare. And except for one senator, who came...

(Ferndale, MI) A man who was just trying to get some skunks to leave him alone ended up burning down the rental home where he was living in Ferndale. The man told investigators he had enough with the skunks, who made a home in his crawlspace, and was attempting to drive them out with a smoke bomb when things went awry. The bomb triggered a fire that spread through the crawlspace and onto the first floor of the home, on W. Webster near Edgewood Place. The fire was burning for roughly 15 minutes before the man called 911 for help,...

Muslim protests in India are calling for a boycott of Pampers products after claiming to have seen the word 'Mohammed' in the face of a cartoon cat which appears on its nappies. The lines illustrating the whiskers, nose, mouth and left eye of the smiley feline have been suggested to resemble the Prophet's name when written in Arabic or Urdu, although the company that makes the products vehemently denied the claims. The Prophet Mohammed, it added, was a 'holy personality in Islam' and the 'disrespect cannot be tolerated'. The letter went on to say: 'Arrest them and punish them.' 'The...

During his February 22 CPAC speech NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre suggested leftists are too focused on pushing gun control to redirect their energies and fight for school safety. LaPierre said, “The elites don’t care one wit about school children. If they truly cared, they would protect them.” He suggested a hatred for the NRA is the only passion leftists hold as strongly as they hold gun control. TIME quoted LaPierre assessing the left’s reaction to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School attack. He suggested they viewed the emotional aftermath as an opportunity for more laws rather than an...

Full title: Trump calls campus deputy who hid from school gunman a 'coward' and says: 'He certainly did a poor job' 'So he certainly did a poor job,' Trump repeated. 'But that's a case where, somebody who was outside, they're trained, they didn't react properly under pressure or they were a coward. It was a real shot to the police department.'

With stunning poise and steely confidence, Cameron Kasky, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, confronted U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., live on CNN on Wednesday evening. “Can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the (National Rifle Association)?” he demanded. In the arena where the town hall event was held, the crowd of some 7,000 — most of them connected to the school community that was shattered when a gunman killed 17 during a Feb. 14 rampage — stood and cheered for more than 20 seconds. After a bit of back-and-forth,...
