Two members of Gore's failed 2000 campaign say they have been approached to see whether they would sign up for another run, Britain's Sunday Telegraph reported.

With meek and spineless Democrats incapable of putting up anything more than a holographic opposition to the fascist BushCo regime, aging progressives like me are wondering if we’re gonna be forced to spend the rest of our more-than-half-lived lives watching moronic and myopic BushCo regressives and their ideologically twisted descendants kill, maim, and tax-cut their way to universal one-party American political rule. When the best Dems have to offer is the ‘angry’ Hillary Clinton or a recycled John Kerry, surely all hope is lost. There’s little chance I’d vote for Clinton after her hawkish stance on the war and the...

Food Fight!By Chris Shugart, May 19, 2005 Nowadays, up-to-date and happening progressives no longer rely on discussion and debate to further their cause. In today's world of liberal politics, thoughtful discourse has become inconvenient. Formulating reasonable arguments can be complex and require annoying things like research, facts, and the coherent articulation of ideas. Why waste time trying to create intelligent rebuttals when you can counter your opponent by just throwing food at them?Malcontented liberals like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have become so yesterday. Their anti-Bush griping is moldier than John Kerry's campaign victory cake. These days, even Michael Moore...

Health authorities in Taiwan yesterday released a statement confirming a dangerous outbreak of a new bird-flu disease dubbed "Cuckoo Bird Flu" (CBF). Unlike the H5N1 virus strain found in China, Vietnam and Thailand which affects the lungs and respiratory system, the CBF strain has only been confirmed in Taiwan and is more closely related to CJD, or "brain-wasting disease." Symptoms include delusional feelings of power and grandeur, audacity, arrogance, childlike behavior and a weakening backbone. While asleep, victims are often heard mumbling, "It's not fair, it's not fair." Several victims have developed a unique facial expression which health authorities liken...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John Kerry has a simple strategy if the presidential race is in doubt on Nov. 3, the day after the election: Do not repeat Al Gore's mistakes. Unlike the former vice president, who lost a recount fight and the 2000 election, Kerry will be quick to declare victory on election night and begin defending it. He also will be prepared to name a national security team before knowing whether he's secured the presidency. [snip] The prospects for another contested election grow with every poll showing the race neck and neck. Gore prematurely conceded the 2000 race...

The word "funny" is not the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the name "Gore." Last year, when Miramax announced it had commissioned Kristin Gore, daughter of Al, to write a comic novel about a single woman working in Washington, Jay Leno turned the book into a punch line of his own. "It's about a Capitol Hill staffer who works with a congressman on a health-care subcommittee," he said. "Apparently that boring gene doesn't fall far from the tree." Turns out, yes it does. "Sammy's Hill" is a laugh-out-loud literary debut, certain to draw comparisons to "Bridget...

When Republican delegates nominate their presidential candidate this week, they will be doing it in a city where residents who support George Bush have, for all practical purposes, already been disenfranchised. Barring a tsunami of a sweep, heavily Democratic New York will send its electoral votes to John Kerry and both parties have already written New York off as a surefire blue state. The Electoral College makes Republicans in New York, and Democrats in Utah, superfluous. It also makes members of the majority party in those states feel less than crucial. It's hard to tell New York City children that...

Michael Moore's fakery fest "Fahrenheit 9/11" features in one of its scenes a newspaper headline that reads: "Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election." The words were apparently designed to perpetuate the myth that Bush "stole" the 2000 presidential election. A lawyer for the Pantagraph newspaper in Bloomington, Ill., sent a letter to Moore accusing him of misappropriating the headline from the Pantagraph's pages. The headline did appear in the Pantagraph, but only on the letters-to-the-editor page, and was intended only to reflect the letter writer's sentiments. According to the Pantagraph's Web site, the lawyer's letter also charges Moore with...

VIN SUPRYNOWICZ: Not exactly an air-tight case It's unfortunate -- but typical -- that Michael Moore begins his new semi-documentary film, "Fahrenheit 9/11," with a lie. The film instructs viewers that every legitimate media outlet that sent reporters to Florida after the 2000 election concluded Al Gore really won the popular vote there -- and thus the presidency. The truth is just the opposite. Every mainstream media outlet that went and looked -- including far-left East Coast papers that had endorsed Gore -- reluctantly concluded George W. Bush won the popular vote in Florida, no matter how you counted it....

Demography, as the saying goes, may be destiny. But an archaic system of representation that includes a winner-take-all selection of electors and eschews proportionate representation at the local level is denying a voice to political minorities. Are you perchance one of the 2.4 million hardy Democrats living in Texas? You might as well hang up your political spurs. Since the Reagan era, Texas has become solidly Republican. Or perhaps you're a GOPer in New York or California, home to a combined 8.5 million members of the Grand Old Party. Tough luck, pal. Many of the distortions can be traced to...

In 1997’s “Batman And Robin,” a maniacal Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) runs around with an ice-emitting blaster gun turning Gotham into the North Pole, while he grunts: “Stop Global Warming! Start Global Freezing!” There may actually be more science in the last installment of the Caped Crusader saga than in “The Day After Tomorrow,” which premiered on May 28th. The $200-million Summer blockbuster features super-tornadoes smashing LA, hail stones the size of Toyotas falling in Tokyo, waves that wash an oil tanker up Fifth Avenue in New York, and a blizzard that turns Manhattan into Mt. Everest. ...

This is addressed equally to many addressees and the U.S. Government as extremely vital information and an advisory to those at the highest levels of education, defense and Government. I am here because of the declining condition of American security, reputation, credibility, respect and prosperity brought on by flawed U.S. foreign policy, failed and or no diplomacy and the use of threats, strangling illegal embargoes, Presidential imperialist sanctions and the illegal, preemptive and unilateral use of the U.S. Military against other sovereign peoples and nations. Some of you will adamantly disagree with my previous statement. That is your right just...

Roland Emmerich, the German director of "The Day after Tomorrow" made these illuminating remarks in interviews in the German press. It says a lot about him but also about the Hollywood mindset. Here is the German original, the translation of the excerpt is mine. Do you think he would say this to American audiences? Q: Will the anti-Bush mood outside of America be conducive to the success of the film? A: I had no idea that Bush would get up to all the things he did eventually. During the last election campaign I was already writing the script. I hope...

Several pundits have predicted that there will be a huge turnout for the Florida Democratic primary Tuesday, particularly among black voters. This, despite the fact that John Kerry has effectively secured the nomination. The reasons are twofold: (1) Democrats will make every effort to get out the vote to demonstrate that Florida will be in play during the general election; and (2) black voters, incensed that they were systematically harassed, intimidated and prevented from voting in the 2000 presidential election — the "stolen" election — will stream to the polls in droves. The second reason is a political myth repeated...

I am looking for an article or source that outlines the facts why Bush won in 2000. I'm looking for the arguments to have handy when your typical liberal throws out the "Well Bush stole the election in 2000" comment. Can anyone point me to something? Thanks!

stop the presses by Eric AltermanAl, We Hardly Know Ye [from the March 1, 2004 issue]The evolution of the character invented by the media to play the role "Al Gore" will one day make a remarkable doctoral dissertation. The most doctrinaire postmodernist would have a hard time keeping up with the myriad literary inventions, textual subversions and convenient fictions necessary to sustain the ever-changing narrative. One day Gore is an uptight, hypercautious "serial exaggerator." Later, when it turns out that it was the media--most egregiously, the Washington Post's Ceci Connolly--who spread false stories about Gore that were picked up and...

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Rev. Al Sharpton all but admits he has no shot of winning the Democratic nomination for president, but that doesn't deter the thousands who have leapt to their feet and danced on chairs in recent days to cheer his fiery words as he preaches to campaign rallies across South Carolina. Just last week, after a vintage Sharpton speech full of sharp humor and wisecracks designed to paint his fellow Democrats as weak on issues of race and poverty, dozens of students at a historically black college near the capital heeded his call for campaign volunteers by...

Unfortunate as it is true, Democrats don't battle Republicans for the black vote. They battle apathy. Blacks vote Democrat or stay home. Which prompts two questions: Will Howard Dean, the third-generation Yalie from Vermont by way of Park Avenue, have a problem ginning up enough black support if he wins the Democratic nomination for president?

IT WAS THE worst of times, and it was the worst of times. The 12 months labeled, stored, and referenced as "2003" will be forever remembered as a "war year." And wars are the worst of things upon which to waste years. In January, the nation passed the halfway mark of the court-appointed Bush administration. A hardy lot, Americans had survived two years and a day of excruciating corruption, skullduggery, and embarrassment. It was about to get worse. All the best halftime shows took place at peace rallies. The media’s electronic war drumbeat was providing George W. Bush with the...

For all the gloominess Democrats may harbor about Howard Dean's chances in the general election, here's a bit of good news: Ralph Nader, whose third-party candidacy cost Al Gore the presidency in 2000, seems unlikely to mount a run against the former Vermont governor.
