My first vanity, likely my last. Finally - someone is fighting back. A new website "Don't Enroll- Alaska" (http://www.dontenrollalaska.org/#)is now up and running. In addition to the website, ads are running on local TeeVee and local cable channels. I've not seen that is is part of a National campaign, but it should be. Check out the site and let your friends know - don't enroll. Std disclaimer - I've had nothing to do with this site, but thought is was on point enough to share here for others to see, it is time to start fighting back....

Chickaloon Native Village, a federally-recognized Athabascan Indian Tribal government in Alaska, filed a communication to the United Nations Independent Expert on the human right to water and sanitation in conjunction with her first official visit to the United States, which began today. Chickaloon Village’s submission asserts that the new open-pit coal strip mine in its traditional territory proposed by the Usibelli Corporation would contaminate local drinking water sources as well as rivers, streams and groundwater that support salmon, moose and other animals and plants vital for subsistence, religious and cultural practices. The US Federal Government and the State of Alaska...

The year 2008 was a busy one for Joe Miller. An attorney in private practice who was also busy doing part-time legal work for the Fairbanks North Star Borough, he was also serving as the Interior region chair for the Alaska Republican Party. By March, he was actively working to unseat state party chair Randy Ruedrich in the belief the party needed a leader who would fully back Gov. Sarah Palin. Six months later, Miller signed on to represent a group trying to thwart a legislative investigation into whether Palin -- who had just rocketed onto the national stage as...

JUNEAU -- Gov. Sean Parnell calls newly passed federal health care legislation unconstitutional and "public policy at its worst." His attorney general is reviewing the measure to determine if the state may join others in suing over the issue, though a Department of Law spokesman cautioned against a rush to judgment. snip "For the many Alaskans currently unable to afford insurance, this legislation will do nothing but require that they purchase health insurance," he said. "This bill will increase insurance premiums and do very little to ensure that patients have access to needed health care professionals."

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An autopsy conducted Thursday shows that wolves likely killed an itinerant teacher in the southwest Alaska village of Chignik Lake, according to the Alaska State Troopers. Village residents found the body of Candice Berner, 32, a short distance from town on Monday. Multiple injuries due to animal mauling caused Berner's death, trooper Col. Audie Holloway said, referencing a report from the state medical examiner's office.

,,,(snip) In one lingering issue, the Alaska Public Offices Commission has refused Palin's request to keep secret the discounts that come from her husband's Arctic Cat sponsorship. APOC also said Palin needs to disclose all the gifts she received last year, rejecting her interpretation that she doesn't need to until after she gets around to actually opening the gifts. ROTFLMAo -- a gift isn't a gift until it is opened. Seems some stuff has been sitting around for a year or more. I will say that is a very quaint view of a legal issue.

Levi was dressed up for dinner with me, photographer Marc Lester, and his advisors, criminal defense attorney Rex Butler and private investigator Tank Jones. He had on nice leather shoes, slacks and a designer T-shirt under a gray North Face jacket. Up close under the restaurant lights, I could see that his facial hair was patchy and his cheeks were round and soft. He's only 19, but that's easy to forget.

Dear (that's me), Thank you for contacting me regarding climate change policy. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me. Alaska is the focal point in the global warming debate. However, calling what is taking place a debate is a bit of a stretch because, all too often alarmists, such as Al Gore, declare the debate over without it ever having taken place. I do not challenge that climate change is occurring, but the central question awaiting an answer is to what extent man-made emissions are responsible for this change. Contrary to popular opinion, that question...
