We just need to get back to common sense... and forcing a citizen to complete a "competency" test to exercise a right is not the way to go about it.

I never said that. That's your idea not mine.

    Yeah, I'm afraid you did...

Imagine the differences it would make if virtually every child were taught firearms safety, handling and care by competent instructors.

Just shows how slippery this subject is, these days we have a government that cannot be trusted... everything they do is behind the curtain, and anytime we accept their premise when arguing this subject, we start off at a deficit in the fight.

This is must always be our base line... "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

You know as well as I, that one of the Lefts crowning achievements would be to find a way to, with a stroke of a pen, remove a citizens Rights due to "competency issues".

After all, as the anti-2A people constantly tell us:

...There are only a few that have the "need" to carry a weapon. State/Local and/or Federal Law Enforcement are really the only people with enough training and stability to carry these deadly devices.

...The common citizen just doesn't have the proper accreditation to carry a weapon safely, even returning military vets need to be completely checked out, after all who could possibly be stable after years of non stop combat operations.

You must also know, that they already have an active goal of challenging "competency" in many areas with regard to the 2nd Amendment as the stories roll through FR weekly, and you also know that they have been attempting to institute it for years.

I'm just sayin... Lets not help the Leftists/Anti-2A dirtbags out, no citizen should need government generated "qualifiers" on a Natural Right, in order to have, use and practice them.

...And who gets to set the "competency" bar, that is the guise the anti-gunners have been using against us for years, Lets not be the group adding water to the already "slippery slope".

Most people will do what they feel comfortable with, if they require training, most will seek it out from one source or the other. But if a citizens "misuses" this right... the Law, if properly used, will take care of the problem. This is not just some whimsical idea, a lot of us grew up where we could store our hunting rifles in the school locker.

We just need to get back to common sense... and forcing a citizen to complete a "competency" test to exercise a right is not the way to go about it.

Perhaps firearms training should just be a requirement of education, as Pres. Teddy Roosevelt recommended, then there would be no issue of requiring it as a condition of firearms ownership and no issue of defacto registration of firearms and their owners.

Back in the day we all got required firearms training.. from our Parents, Family and Friends... that's what it needs to go back to.

I go both ways, depending on how I feel that day.

Being a Second Amendment activist, I open carry a lot more than I used to, and have found the general public pretty much neutral about it. Most of the time it just leads to discussions with fellow gun owners I bump into.

Although LEO's initially had to get a couple lawsuits thrown at them to realize an armed citizen is not the problem. Since then, they have been fairly supportive and OC is becoming a little more common in my area.

Sounds like a straight-up deprivation of rights under color of law. Judge should get the death penalty.

And because the violation is also against one of our most coveted rights... the Second Amendment. Maybe move him to Utah where IIRC, they still have the firing squad.

Come on out and join us, you don't have to be armed to attend, but it is highly encouraged ;-)

You need a firearms license to "open carry", but no license is required for the rifle. Not up on the law? visit Georgia Laws from Georgia Packing

Anyone that supports legislation such as this, ESPECIALLY with the Feds pushing it, is pitifully foolish to the nth degree.

This WILL turn into a registration program... mark my words! The Feds have been looking for a way to control the movement of personal weapons for many years... and that is why this legislation "pops" up every single cycle, DO NOT BE FOOLED as to their intentions and end game!

You do not want the Feds "regulating" what is a Natural Right, play with fire and you are gonna get burned.

In the areas where the NRA and GOA fail on the legislative side, the SAF fights like hell in the courts to destroy unconstitutional laws.

That my FRiend, cannot be denied!

not being sarcastic, just curious. what have the GOA done for 2A rights? I don't hear anything about them. have they made any progress ?

The NRA and GOA are actually two different types of Second Amendment groups...

The NRA is more of a corporate institution with an est. 4+ million members, they also have a lot of irons in the fire, training, education, legislative action group. Definitely the big dog in the kennel so they get smoozed a lot by the "elected class", but with that comes some interdependence with politicians and the government.

The GOA is a small but ferocious grassroots type group that uses member alerts to battle or support specific legislation. Instead of spending money on lawyers and training programs, they use their members as the "action arm", they send out alerts and the members are urged to take action... as in contacting and bringing pressure on their Reps.

People attempt to compare the two groups, but it is unfair at best, as the GOA is a much smaller organization and their impact on legislation is difficult to gauge.

but when gun owners and users are under siege in localities, states or by the federal government, the NRA shows up and works hard to right wrongs.

Come on, the B.S. meter just pegged on that one... Most of the victories these days are not due to the NRA, most have been pushed and fought for by local/state activists and groups.

Usually, if the NRA does show up, its after the legwork has been done, deny it as you may, a search of the facts proves it is so.

My membership to the NRA expires next year and I was willing to give them the benefit of a doubt, hoping that they had learned their lessons from the beating they took last year.

Obviously they learned nothing from the member backlash and the Keene matter just sealed the deal, I'm out.

what major legislative victories has GOA scored for the second amendment?

At least the GOA has not actively attempted to undermined the 2A... the NRA? It is well known that their fingerprints are all over many pieces of anti-2A legislation.

Chicken-fried pop, and not as manly as the Dixie Chicks. What happened to country music?

Whoa! Haven't heard that name in awhile... Whatever happened to the Dipsy Twits? Haven't heard a thing about them since driving over the thousands of their CD's littering the country's highways.

Some of the best if not the BEST price/quality ratio around.

Totally agree, I did A LOT of looking around for an upper to throw on a DPMS lower, and Model 1 Sales without a doubt has some of the best stuff out there. Been thinking of another upper in a different caliber lately and they are first on my list.

It may be contitutionally the best thing since sliced bread, but tactically, it’s stupid to warn an enemy to get out of pistol range and kill you from ambush or long range.

With all due respect my FRiend, We're not talking the bush... we're talking the common streets of a common city, you of all people know that tactics flex and bend depending on the situation and/or location.
