Wisconsin could become the fifth state with Constitutional Carry, but Walker is going Wobbly.

20 years ago I would have gone with Constitutional carry; nowadays I’ve seen too many law-abiding folks with no firearms experience get CCW’s; they need training!

The question is not whether the people should get trained or not, the question is whether the government can REQUIRE it without running afoul of the Second Amendment, and whether the government can be trusted with information that could be used as a registry of those exercising their rights. (Hint: No)

PROCON, whose tagline is "(Liberals Mistake Education and Knowledge for Wisdom and Common Sense.) said: " ... they need training!"

Perhaps it is not only the Liberals who make that mistake.

My point was that training is necessary for a well-rounded marksman.

William Tell, I used to train young soldiers with the M-14, M-16 and the .45; the country boys had no problem catching on and excelled in markmanship; the city boy enlistees however had usually never fired a weapon, the Army and I taught them how.

I don't intend to infringe on anyone's 2nd Ammendment rights, I just want somebody who buys a gun to know what the hell their doing with it!

Well, I do agree that training (both in the sense of instruction as well as practice) is vital.

Then we agree, Woo-Hoo..:=)

I know anytime, ANYONE suggests any restrictions, 2nd ammendment folks get nervous; I've just seen too many unsafe incidents, with untrained personnel,...OK, now I'll shut-up..:=)

Well, hang on, I’m parsing my words real careful. I support people seeking out training, but I don’t see how it can be REQUIRED, on both 2A grounds and practical terms as well. Is that what you’re saying as well?

NO state requirement for training, but it should be up to the individual, and here in Oregon, there are many great non-state sponsored training courses which teach the firearm basics and conceal and carry law.

As an aside, even here in a blue state, our state Constitution states that except for Federal buildings, no entity may prohibit licensed CCW holders from entering premises, ie. public schools, airports, etc.

And the legislature of Kalifornia just wants to make sure that people have a good reason to carry a gun. The result is that local law enforcement almost universally refuses to issue concealed carry permits.

Certainly you are not among those who believe that every good thing must be mandated by the government?

I'm all for combining sex education in the schools with gun education. Every child in the U.S. can be expected to know how to handle firearms and what the laws on use of firearms are. As far as free, law-abiding adults go; the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Training is a good thing. I really learned a lot from what I had, and continue to look up important details about case law regarding self defense shootings.
But it should not be forced by the government.

Yes. Apparently I saw a contradiction where there was none. Sorry.
