Our society is not a meritocracy any more. The people at the top don’t know what they’re doing. But they check the right boxes, or they network well, or they bully the right people. They rise up for all the wrong reasons and our society sinks into the muck.
We need judicial reform. And part of that needs to be lack of immunity for people within the law enforcement/justice system. If you’re “a Good Guy” but you play dirty, your prison term should be a long one. Judges, DAs, FBI — everybody. Enjoy your felony conviction and your new roommate Bubba.
Yup. I think people realize that Kaiser Wilhem was a jerk. But he was not a madman, and he was not an ideologue. If Germany had won WWI and if France and Russia had lost, the whole aftermath of that would have been negligible and the 20th century would have avoided the nightmare of Bolshevism and the nightmare of Nazism.
Dropping the bombs saved over a million lives — most of them Japanese, but plenty of American lives were saved too. It was a humanitarian act. And, no, I don’t accept the idea that Russia was about the beat Japan for us and make our invasion of the home islands unnecessary.
