To me, property tax explodes the myth of "property ownership". Every single one of you who "owns" a house, a piece of land-- even if you have paid off the usually lifetime debt it cost to "buy" it-- --rents it from "the king", the State, the Friendly Person who smiles and smiles (from June to November biennially or quadrennially) and is a villain (the rest of the time). Try not paying your "rent". A house or farm or whatever might have been in your family since 1854 (or longer), with the "title" framed over the fireplace built by hand by...
  • Help me repair a tiny broken zebra

I've had these tiny zebras in my* home all my life. I don't know where they came from, or why there are two that are identical. When my late parents' house was emptied, my sister sent these (and other things) to me. One of the zebras had suffered from a failure in packaging. I would like to repair it, but fear making a hash of it. At the very least, I would like to know the best adhesive for the purpose, and any recommendations as to method of securing pieces together while an adhesive sets or cures. Thanks in advance!...

  • FReeper model builders? A question.

    08/23/2021 12:57:05 AM PDT · by ExGeeEye · 16 replies
I'm looking to repaint a small steel toy. It's nearly 50 years old, and some of the paint separated while in storage and fell off. I'd like to repaint it, and thought of brushed-on model paint as the best solution. However, model paint is usually sold near plastic models. So, the question for model builders: can these paints (like Testor enamel) be used for steel parts, or is there something more suited? Thanks :)

I have inherited an old piece of furniture that has been in my family longer than I have. We called it a "buffet"; I have heard similar items called a "sideboard". It was part of the dining room set bought second- or fifth-hand by my newly-wed parents in 1963. It has drawers, originally for cutlery, silverware, etc.; a long drawer, for table linens; and two side compartments for such things as candlesticks, salt-and-pepper sets, and the like. These side compartments close with swinging doors and spring-loaded ball-bearing (?) latches which engage brass concave plates in the doors. BUT! As long...

This has probably been asked and answered. I may have actually read, or more likely, scrolled past articles and threads containing the Answer. Therefore, do pardon me, and if you cannot, please feel free to pile on all the ridicule you can muster-- IF you know the answer. And also, IF you know the answer-- please share it. Here goes: --Gas prices always seem to rise in unison. ***Almost as if there has been a conference among the various gas companies for the purpose of fixing the prices. QUESTIONS: 1. Isn't price-fixing illegal? 2. If price-fixing is not occurring, what...

I thought I saw a picture once of a bunch of parts and accessories for the AR platform someone put together for humorous purposes or to ask the gun-ignorant if the assembly ought to be banned. I'd like to find that picture again... or perhaps one of y'all has a copy.

Is there a way to make the mouse pointer/cursor a bright color so it stands out against a wall of text? Sometimes (especially when, in text, it looks like a cross section of and I-beam, I lose it and have to wiggle it all over the place before I find it. Windows! Yeah, I know. Probably all kinds of cool trix in Apple-sauce.

My little cousin | Now | Me
My 8 year old cousin is sitting across the living room from me, playing a game on a tablet which apparently involve animated balls going through a maze of some sort. He's mildly autistic, and comments to himself on the game's progress, usually unintelligibly. He just said... "Oh no, my balls are trapped!"

    My standard-issue brain | October 28, 2017 | ExGeeEye
If you have an AR-type rifle with a standard flash suppressor on it, and you store it outside of a case as in a rack, and place a plastic dust cover over the flash suppressor, what happens if, in an emergent situation, you grab it, stick a mag in it, rack it and go "hunting", and (God forbid!) fire it, forgetting to remove the dust cap? Anything bad?

    The Babylon Bee ^ | Oct 4, 2016 | Unknown
SEATTLE, WA—According to sources within The Lighthouse Fellowship, worship leader Hurley Hudson carried out his weekly routine of printing chord sheets for him and his eight-piece worship band Saturday night—only this time, Hudson checked the wrong box on CCLI’s SongSelect web application, which caused the site to print out a strange collection of lines, ovals, circles, and numbers along with the usual lyrics to the Coldplay song they were set to feature during their worship service. As nobody caught the error until Sunday morning, the band arrived with no idea that anything was amiss until they began their 9:15 a.m....

Again, mahometans have made their religion known in a major city. Again, it is known by those who choose to learn that these are NOT radicals. They are carrying out the commands of the alcoran and other mahometan scriptures. Again, the response of the west will be --tears --"prayers" (for what exactly?) --expressions of "support" with no substance behind them and lest we forget, --Where's the FB thing where you can alter your badge to resemble the flag of Belgium? My old computer died; my new computer came without any extras (I thought I would install them from my backups). Problem is, my Office 2013 came with my old computer and I bought the product key to activate it. So now I have the product key and no Office to activate. Where can I go to download it? Funny replies like "put it in the trash and go to the Apple store for a real computer" will get an appreciative chuckle, but not much more :)

    Thanksgiving Day, 2013 | Me
I haven't been in every business in town. Ever. Certainly not in the past week. But during the past week, at every business I've patronized, I've made it a point to ask at least one employee about their holiday schedule. Only one will be closed today (Thanksgiving Day). A couple will be closed Christmas Day. One big store will be open Christmas Day, but closed Christmas Eve. The businesses that will be open called for volunteers to work those days. All of them offered some sort of compensation: a multiple of the regular hourly rate (usually 2x), a dollar amount...
