(CNN)Mike Adams, the former University of North Carolina Wilmington professor who angered the campus community on Twitter, was found dead in his home Thursday afternoon, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. Adams was found dead and alone in his home during a welfare check at about 2 p.m., Jerry Brewer, a public information officer with the sheriff's department, told CNN. The investigation into his death is ongoing, Brewer said. Adams' death comes less than a month after the university announced that he would retire following campus uproar over his tweets.

Reports of overdoses continue to skyrocket as the day progresses. A Public health alert has been issued. A woman drove through a fence at an apartment complex in Great Falls early Sunday. It happened at about 8 a.m. at the Fox Hollow apartments on 10th Street SW, behind the Best Western Heritage Inn. AUGUST 29--A South Carolina couple was arrested yesterday for having sex inside a display shed at a Home Depot, police report. Emily Craig, 20, and Shaun Bowden, 31, were nabbed after cops were called to the store in North Charleston around 8:40 AM.
