See original thread here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1200566/posts August 20, 2005 In regards to: Ralph W. Hill Department of Veterans Affairs Medical & Regional Office Center 5500 East Kellogg Avenue Wichita, Kansas 67218-1698 Dear W. Hill: Subject: Application for Burial Benefits This letter has taken a long time to write, along with the decision that comes with it. I have debated and prayed for several months as to whether I should appeal your decision on Ralph’s death pension benefits. The fact that you made the decision that Ralph’s death was not service-related is what I disagree with. There are some things on Ralph’s...

Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 A celebration was held at Golden Plains Nursing Home for Sarah Scantlin. She’s essentially been asleep for 20 years, but now she’s awake and talking. “I think it’s truly a miracle, that she hasn’t been able to communicate at all for 20 years and she’s talking,” says Dr. Bradley Scheel, Sarah’s doctor. “Hi,” says Sarah Scantlin. “Many times I’ve had to pretend that Sarah wasn’t around, because I couldn’t take anymore,” says Sarah’s father, Jim Scantlin. “You kind of just resign yourself to that’s the way life is,” says Jim Scantlin, Jr., Sarah’s brother. Twenty years...
  • Ralph, the story of a viet nam vet as told by his wife. (Did Kerry's 1971 testimony do damage?)

Dear Mr. President, What an honor it is to be able to email you. There are two issues I would like to cover in this letter. The first one is to say how thankful I am for the Swift Vets and their courage to uncover the truth about John Kerry. It breaks my heart and angers me that anyone would consider him a hero. He lied about our brave soldiers in Vietnam, causing their homecoming to be even more painful and hateful. My husband, Ralph, was just one soldier hurt by his lies. He was spit on at the airport...

KAKE News anonymously received a copy of an interoffice e-mail from the Equal Employment Opportunity Officer of the City of Wichita. The e-mail was sent nine months ago after an American flag was removed from a city break room. The e-mail was sent to city personnel department to explain why the flag was taken down. The e-mail reads, "Let's refrain from placing things in common areas that might appear to show a preference of one group over another… Shortly after 9/11, we had flags all over the place up front. In retrospect, that was probably not appropriate either." The e-mail...

Patrick Miller's Untold Story Susan Peters Private First Class Patrick Miller received the Silver Star and Purple Heart last spring. Now the military is recognizing the bravery of the soldier from Valley Center. When most of Kansas first heard about Patrick Miller, it was through the lens of an Iraqi TV camera, just one day after being taken as a prisoner of war. Minutes before his capture the 23-year-old father of two had just performed what some are calling the bravest act of the war. "The way the unit was designed and set up, we were supposed to be toward...
  • Wichita Rally 12-1-00, Sorry so late

Friday's weather was not kind. It was bitter cold with the wind blowing. Time for everyone to gather was at 9:00am and I got there plenty early. I was plenty cold by the time that others arrived. The cold, overcast and wind did not stop about 20-30 enthusiastic Bush supporters from coming out and hollering for Bush. The gathering started with people holding signs and chanting, then there was a break for a prayer, then back to the signs and chants. A couple of local men dressed in 1776 patriotic fashion, and one held a yellow "Don't Tread on Me" ...

I experienced freedom at it's finest this afternoon. I got to the rally site right about the 1:00 start time. There were a few hundred people there already waving signs and chanting. I started taking pictures right away (I will post if I can ever figure out how this program works.) I talked to some of the people there and was asked what the pictures were for. I told them that I would try to put them on FreeRepublic.com tonight or tomorrow. Several of the people commenting on this rally did not know that there have been several other rallys ...
