Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Parker issued the following concurring opinion in a case last week that ruled 8-1 that unborn children are human beings and the state’s wrongful death law can include them when it comes to destroying human embryos at an IVF fertility clinic. PARKER, Chief Justice (concurring specially). A good judge follows the Constitution instead of policy, except when the Constitution itself commands the judge to follow a certain policy. In these cases, that means upholding the sanctity of unborn life, including unborn life that exists outside the womb. Our state Constitution contains the following declaration...

“One of the standards the Church uses to measure the quality of her leaders is a simple line from Scripture: “God is not the author of confusion but of peace” (1 Cor. 14:33). So it was for Paul. So it is now. So it is for local pastors and bishops, including the bishop of Rome. Confusion among the faithful can often be a matter of innocent individuals who hear but fail to understand the Word. Confused teaching, however, is another matter. It’s never excusable. The transmission of Christian truth requires prudence and patience because humans are not machines. But it...

Robert Royal and Fr. Gerald Murray discuss a new document — Fiducia supplicans — that came out today from the Dicastery on the Doctrine of the Faith, and approved by Pope Francis, that seeks to “broaden” and “enrich” the concept of “blessing” in the Church. This innovation, its seems, will even permit blessings for “same-sex couples” — just as long as they don’t give the impression of being the equivalent of traditional marriage.

From what can be gathered from the publicly restricted discussions at the Synod on Synodality, delegates talked a great deal about welcoming and inclusion, about some potentially radical changes in Church governance, and specific issues such as women’s ordination, homosexuality and immigration. The focus, therefore, appears to have so far been primarily on the temporal, on matters clearly pertaining to this world and mostly according to merely worldly perspectives, both regarding the Church and society. By contrast, how much has the essence of the faith and the supernatural been discussed? More to the point, when did the delegates speak of...

An outstanding short presentation about the blasphemous synod on sodomy that just ended at the Vatican. https://youtu.be/MtvjtRr1zmI?si=6oEIiXKt2m7A9egF

What is the synod underway in Rome actually about? Over and again, official Vatican sources are telling us many things. That it is not about theology, nor about doctrinal matters, nor about LGBTQ+, the ordination of women and the issue of celibacy. Neither is it, they add, about seeking to undermine or replace the hierarchical nature of the church or democratize the decision-making process. No, it would seem to be dealing with the question of what synodality is. After all, this is a synod on synodality. Nobody seems to know what that is, and so the Pope has figured that...

I recently was on the road for a while and went to Mass at a parish (in another state) that I’d never been to before. The small church was quite lovely, the liturgy quite reverent, and the homily quite horrible. There were several reasons for the latter, but foremost was the strange description of the (then) upcoming Synodal gathering in Rome. In sum: the month-long event in Rome, was about “change,” said the priest. To wit: might the Church change her teachings about women being priests? And would the Church change how she sees and understand LGBT+ individuals? The priest...

A Catholic priest in San Francisco published an open letter to Pope Francis accusing the pontiff of “hurting” his parish and ministry by promoting homosexuality and urging him to preach the Gospel clearly. “My Papa Francesco, I must tell you that you are making my job as a parish priest difficult,” wrote Father Joseph Illo of Star of the Sea Parish in the letter dated October 6. “I am writing to you in the spirit of parrhesia, a biblical word you have used several times to encourage us to speak freely, boldly, and without fear of disagreement,” the priest said....

“There’s an unfortunate tendency among Catholics and Protestants alike to relish the misfortunes of the other. When some evangelical megachurch pastor ham-fistedly embraces the LGBT agenda, Catholics will quip that it was inevitable thanks to the Reformation. When Pope Francis appears to undermine orthodox Christian teaching in a garbled answer to some interviewer’s question, Protestants will snark about the “commie pope. Just last week, for example, a short (and admittedly disturbing) video clip of Pope Francis surrounded by scantily-clad circus performers made the rounds on social media, triggering predictable Protestant jeers like, “Never too late to join the Reformation!” But...

A perfect little red schoolhouse stands on a plot of land outside Petersburg, Virginia, complete with four walls, a flagpole, and that classic schoolhouse look. Its classes follow that old-fashioned school model to the letter in that they teach reading, writing, and arithmetic, learn the Constitution, and say the Pledge of Allegiance. As for the status quo, that same little schoolhouse blows the protocols of public schools out of the water. It certainly forbids LGBTQ ideology and CRT from being taught and refuses to celebrate Pride Month—now espoused in so many American public schools.

“Christians should imitate Jesus in being steadfast — not inflexible — in their convictions, thus being open to change for the good of others, Pope Francis said on Sunday. “This is what God is like: He is love, and the one who loves does not remain rigid,” the pope said on Aug. 20. “You stand firm, you stay firm, not rigid.” The Christian, he added, “does not remain rigid in his own positions but allows him or herself to be moved or touched. He or she knows how to change plans. It’s creative love.” Pope Francis said: “We Christians want...

Michael Matt shares clips from a vintage documentary on the Second Vatican Council, and asks a few easy questions: Do you believe the Catholic Church is better off today than it was in 1965? Do you believe the Gospel is being proclaimed to the world more efficiently? Is the priesthood better off? How about your extended family? Are they all still practicing? No? So why are we still insisting that Vatican II was such a smashing success? What explains the almost cult-like adoration of a 60-year-old event that by all leading indicators left the Church in shambles? This video includes...

On behalf of Cracker Barrel’s LGBTQ+ Alliance & DEIB Team, we want to celebrate YOU for being YOU. It is our greatest Mission to ensure that Pleasing People means “all people.” LGBTQ+ Pride Month each June is an important time to reflect on the Stonewall Riots that began on June 28, 1969, evoking activists to demand change for the LGBTQ+ community in America. On Saturday morning, Harrison Butker, a former Tech star and two-time Super Bowl champion kicker, was once again in the spotlight as the keynote speaker for Georgia Tech’s undergraduate commencement ceremonies at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Kansas City Chief kicker stunned the graduates with unexpected advice. “In the end— no matter how much money you attain— none of it will matter if you are alone and devoid of purpose… I can offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come: GET MARRIED AND START A FAMILY.” Read the rest of his speech (transcribed...

The Church of England’s decision to bless same-sex couples continues to reverberate throughout the global Anglican Communion as a global meeting of Anglican leaders in Rwanda deemed the move “pastorally deceptive and blasphemous.” The meeting voiced no confidence in Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and called on him and the Church of England to repent of their decision. “Despite 25 years of persistent warnings by most Anglican primates, repeated departures from the authority of God’s Word have torn the fabric of the Communion. These warnings were blatantly and deliberately disregarded and now without repentance this tear cannot be mended,” said...
