    The Nevada Independent ^ | November 5, 2022 | Jon Ralston
Key points from Ralston analysis: 1. Republicans with much stronger trends than Dems in early voting. 2. WORST CASE SCENARIO FOR REPUBS: ---If both parties were to hold 90 percent of their bases and tie among indies, the Dem candidate would win 47.6-47.6 D+200 votes! 3. BEST CASE SCENARIO FOR REPUBS: ---If Repubs have a 5 percent base advantage and win indies by 10, it’s 50.1-44.9, GOP. 5.2 percent, Repubs. Key quote: --It’s not out of the question that some of these races, including the top of the ticket ones, will be close at the end of Election Night....

On advice of someone here, I had been using nitter.net as a proxy for Twitter. It was a great site which essentially mirrored twitter content, except in reverse tone (black background). It was a great site for reading Twitter content without requiring a Twitter account. It suddenly stopped working last Friday after the takeover. Did others experience the same? Thanks.

Strawbridge said the university only implemented its current policy as Jackson described until after SFFA filed its lawsuit. Jackson also noted that schools often consider students' non-race characteristics, including whether they are veterans and if they are parents, in admissions. "What you're advocating, is that in the context of a holistic review process, the university can take into account and value all of the other background and personal characteristics of other applicants, but they can't value race," Jackson added. "What I'm worried about, is that seems to me to have the potential of causing more of an equal protection problem...

A Catholic school in Austria is the first in that country to offer a unique, classically-based approach to education for young students. EWTN News In-Depth Correspondent Colm Flynn recently visited St. Thomas More School in Austria, where students and faculty members spoke about the values that run the culture at the school and the benefits that come from a classical approach to education. One of the immediately noticeable things about the school is the sense of joy that seems to radiate from the students, which was reaffirmed by many of the students’ comments. “I’ve had a great relationship between teachers...
  • GOP Group Launches 6 Figure Buy in Washington Against Senator Murray

    The Hill ^ | August 25, 2022 | JULIA MANCHESTER
The Republican group Winning for Women Action Fund rolled out a six-figure digital ad buy on Thursday hitting incumbent Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) over the issue of crime and boosting Murray’s GOP opponent, Tiffany Smiley. The ad accuses Murray of being “out of touch” and of “turning her back on law enforcement.” Additionally, the buy includes a website called wokepattymurray.com, which also targets her on the issue. It will likely be an uphill battle for Smiley and the GOP. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the race as “solid Democratic,” and polls show Murray leading by double digits.

    Crosscut ^ | July 19, 2022 | by Joseph O'Sullivan
Ared wave that some had forecast for Washington’s midterm elections might turn out looking more like a ripple, according to a new Crosscut/Elway poll. Key points: 1. The statewide poll of registered voters has Democrats holding a 19-point lead – 51 to 32 – in the generic ballot for Congress. A similar question for the Legislature showed 54% of those polled planned to vote for Democrats while 34% favored Republicans. 2. Those numbers show Democrats are even more popular in Washington state than they were before the previous congressional election in 2020, according to the results of a similar Crosscut/Elway...

This case was a challenge to the constitutionality of a Maine program that prohibits tuition for some students to attend private religious schools when their own school district does not operate a public secondary school. The court 6-3, led by Roberts, holds that the Maine program violates the free exercise clause. Because the benefits hinge on whether a school is religious, the Chief writes, the Maine program "effectively penalizes the free exercise" of religion.

In the wake of the Tuesday mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas, Twitter users went viral by making false claims about two of the state's most prominent politicians: Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz, both Republicans. The tweets purported to be written by someone whose nephew was shot in the massacre at Robb Elementary School. The tweets claimed that an Abbott representative knocked on their door, shortly after they returned home from identifying their nephew's body, and that this representative "informed us he's willing to pay us to stand with the Gov and say we don't need...
  • Nate Silver Redistricting Analysis: Democrats poised to INCREASE their House majority in November

Fivethirtyeight ^ | April 13, 2022 | Fivethirtyeight Elections Analysis by Nate Silver
Going strongly counter to the prevailing narrative, Nate Silver predicts that the Democrats will INCREASE their House majority in November. Key findings: Although Republicans went into the redistricting cycle with control over drawing more districts, it is actually Democrats who have gained ground from the process. So far, redistricting has created 10 more Democratic-leaning seats nationally, six fewer Republican-leaning seats and five fewer highly competitive seats. After accounting for incumbency, however, Democrats’ gains should be smaller: Democrats will likely flip between one and four seats in 2022 due to redistricting. In addition, Republicans have helped their own cause by converting...
