There was an active shooter situation behind my house in the Shilo church parking lot. It ended with a sniper shot. Talked to the Circle K attendant that had police/FBI in and out during the night and he said that it started as a police pursuit from Patagonia. He said that the perp started shooting at the Helicopter (that must have what woke me up).

Yup, 11 Mondays of furlough starting 8 July until the end of the fiscal. We had a briefing today from our GO (Major General, USA) and FY14 & 15 is not looking good. Reduction in force (RIF) looks probable for both the active and civilian Army force. Myself - being associated , active duty (Navy), contractor or civilian with the military since I was 17, it is very depressing. The Web is giving me very little

I have been trying to watch (when I can) the news reports from the Katrina devistation. What has really made me mad is the "glib" reports from some of the on-scene reporters. I am currently TDY to the DC area and my hotel's Fox channel "suspiciously" doesn't work. I have been watching CNN and MSNBC. I have seen some of the reporters on live feed smiling and kind of excited (giddy) when reciting stories of the disaster. They seem to be happy about their own chance to be on the air!
