“Should’ve claimed she was transitioning to male, they’d have fallen all over her, er, “him”, to give ‘em a full-ride scholarship.”
Don’t laugh. My friend’s niece wrote her college essay about how difficult it was to come out as a lesbian to her horrible Christian family (spoiler alert: she isn’t a lesbian) and she got into every single college she applied to, including several Ivies she wasn’t remotely qualified for.
I just substitute taught in a 5th grade classroom in a very conservative area of SC (the class was 90 percent white). As I was perusing the teacher’s classroom library, you were hard pressed to find a book that didn’t have a black person on the cover (fiction and nonfiction). The list of SC Book of the Year award winners contained about 90 percent stories about blacks.
I was given a Target gift card and went online this morninng to look for children’s books. I was shocked to see Dr. Suess was the first thing that popped up. I would have thought a store as “woke” as Target would have pulled the books.
I used to live in FL. There was something called “Black Spring Break” which had nothing to do with college, and just a huge gathering of inner city types in the beach town. It was truly awful and we wouldn’t go near the beach at that time.
Re: your comment about your Kwik Trip ads. I have a friend from Ireland. He says that all the TV commercials are like that (mixed race) in Ireland too and they have an even smaller minority population to begin with.
I watched maybe 20 minutes before falling fast asleep, but not before recognizing that the one white male was a jerk and that all the women were stronger and wiser than men. No thank you.
How appropriate. My 16 year old just bombed a test in his college class on this subject and I’m trying to talk him off the ledge. I’m just thankful for this small bit of humor.
I will read your blog. For some unknown reason, at age 49, I decided to go back to school (and back to work) to get a masters in elementary education. I was an attorney before having kids. I live in a very conservative part of SC and so far a lot of “the agenda” hasn’t hit here. It is only a matter of time, I’m sure.
And not for nothing, but when we lived in a very conservative part of FL, my son got the brainwashing of his life at his private Baptist high school. His Bible teacher was a rabid anti-Trumper.
My brother in law was a 6th grade teacher in a hoity toity school district outside of Philadelphia back during the 2012 election. His students all insisted they were liberal democrats. He had them write out answers to questions about what they believed. Turned out the overwhelming majority of them espoused conservative values. LOL.
