Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening called on the Ukrainian government to take action following the desecration of the grave of Rabbi Nachman in Uman. Netanyahu’s comment came during an online chat with Facebook users. During the chat, the Prime Minister was seen taking a phone call from a person named Yuval, believed to be Yuval Rotem, Director General of the Foreign Ministry. "This must be taken care of,” Netanyahu told Yuval. "The ambassador there should go to the government and tell them that it is simply unacceptable, simply awful, I want them to deal with it.” He added,...

EW YORK (JTA) – Conservative Rabbi Seymour Rosenbloom has been expelled from the Rabbinical Assembly, the movement’s rabbis’ association, for performing interfaith weddings. An ordained Conservative rabbi for 44 years, Rosenbloom was expelled by unanimous vote last month after a hearing of the R.A.’s Executive Council. Since 1972, the Conservative movement has prohibited its rabbis from officiating at or even attending intermarriages. Rosenbloom told JTA the council offered to retain his membership in exchange for a promise not to perform any more intermarriages. Rosenbloom declined the offer.

This is the post-election lecture by Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi. It's long but very important. There are some statements made regarding various Jewish movements. Don't let that deter you, as you may agree with the other 98% of what he says. Mashiach is mentioned. Many American rabbis are having a similar conversation with their communities. • Complaints filed to police over Jerusalem chief rabbi's anti-LGBT remarks

    jpost ^ | 11/18/2016 | JEREMY SHARON
Two complaints of incitement have been filed to the police against Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem Shlomo Amar for comments he has made calling men and women from the LGBT community “a cult of abomination,” and stating that they are liable to the death penalty according to Jewish law. Several more complaints are expected to be filed on Friday. Amar’s comments created a fierce political backlash from members of Knesset and the Jerusalem City Council who helped get the rabbi, who was Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel from 2003 to 2013, elected to his current post. Amar made his comments in...

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Regional Transportation Commission reported it has been defrauded of $1.4 million and is working with law enforcement and its financial institution to get the money back. A statement released by the RTC said it discovered the incident on Oct. 27. It didn’t say when it happened. “The incident involved an email purportedly sent from one of the RTC’s vendors requesting an electronic funds transfer,” the RTC statement said. “RTC honored the supposed vendor’s request and processed the electronic payment in the amount of $1.4 million. The fraudulent transfer was limited to a single payment for...

  • Why is Kol Nidrei considered the holiest of Jewish prayers

    10/11/2016 12:30:59 PM PDT · by Read Write Repeat · 10 replies
Chabad ^ | Rabbi Naftali Silberberg
While Kol Nidrei—a prayer wherein we release vows—is certainly traditionally seen as one of the most important prayers of the year, there is little in Jewish literature to support this idea. The question, however, remains: why does Jewish tradition lend so much weight and solemnity to this seemingly technical prayer? There are those who have claimed that the reason goes back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition, when the conversos (Jews who chose to convert to Christianity rather than face expulsion or death, but remained faithful to Judaism at heart, and to some degree in observance too) would gather...

When Yuval and Lin Djamchid decided to open a café in Eden Hotel, their intimate, 24-room hotel in Jerusalem, they knew they wanted it to be kosher, but not to have the traditional supervision from the Jerusalem rabbinate. So they chose Private Supervision, a new movement led by Rabbi Aaron Leibowitz, an Orthodox rabbi who is also a city councilor from the Yerushalmim movement, which is trying to revitalize Jerusalem. Follow Ynetnews on Facebook and Twitter “It was a matter of principle,” Yuval Djamchid told The Media Line. “We don’t like the Rabbinate and what it represents. We have enough...

The Knesset passed a controversial bill that allows local Orthodox rabbinates to bar non-Orthodox Jewish conversion ceremonies in publicly funded mikvahs. The bill, which was introduced by the haredi Orthodox United Torah Judaism party and opposed by many North American Jewish leaders, was passed Monday night in a 41-35 vote, The Jerusalem Post reported. The new law will be implemented in nine months. Under the law, the municipal rabbinates can determine who may use the mikvahs, or Jewish ritual baths, in their purview. Immersion in the mikvah is part of most conversion ceremonies. The measure aims to override an Israeli...

Morning Joe co-anchor Willie Geist asked Reiner, "There are millions and millions of people who do not watch this show that actually like what they hear from Donald Trump. And they aren't taking messages and orders from us in the media. But they listen to what he says for themselves and vote for him. How do you explain that?" "There are a lot of people who are racist," Reiner quickly replied.
