A woman suffered chemical burns after a Florida man dunked her head in a vat of tar-like substance and choked her at gunpoint. Marshall Dimick, 55, of Rosewood, was arrested this week after an unidentified woman told police she was tortured after she had an “argument” with the felon on Thursday. Dimick claimed the man “dunked her head into a vat of tar-like substance that is used to treat clam and oyster bags.” He also “pointed a shotgun at her and choked her to near unconsciousness,” the Levy County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The victim was hospitalized...

If confirmed, this is the first time since 1981 that the Iranian regime has targeted a defector on U.S. soil. Iranian dissident Mansoor Osanloo, the exiled former head of the bus driver’s union in Tehran, was savagely attacked on Tuesday, May 1, while traveling on a PATH train into New York City, and left for dead. Multiple assailants sprayed him with a corrosive chemical, then clubbed him in the back of the neck with what appears to have been a tire iron. He lay in a coma for several days and required 17 stitches in his neck. I spoke with...

There’s one man, some Republicans say, who kept the public from learning about the chemical shells littered around the Iraqi battlefield. He was Bush's most important political adviser. Starting in 2004, some members of the George W. Bush administration and Republican lawmakers began to find evidence of discarded chemical weapons in Iraq. But when the information was brought up with the White House, senior adviser Karl Rove told them to ‘let these sleeping dogs lie.’ The issue of Iraq’s WMD remnant was suddenly thrust back into the fore this week, with a blockbuster New York Times report accusing the Bush...

A 22-year-old man fell into a vat of chemicals at a Centralia (Missouri) company and was airlifted to University Hospital with acid burns all over his body. Thomas Antle was working at the A.B. Chance Co. plant at 210 N. Allen St. when he fell into a large container of ammonium chloride about 9:30 p.m. yesterday, Boone County Fire Protection Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp said. Antle was in serious condition this afternoon. A.B. Chance makes earth anchors for the electric utility and pipeline industries. After being pulled from the container, Antle was put in a decontamination shower. "It’s all over...
