Insiders Blame Rove for Covering Up Iraq’s Real WMD
The Daily Beast ^ | October 16, 2014 | by Eli Lake

There’s one man, some Republicans say, who kept the public from learning about the chemical shells littered around the Iraqi battlefield. He was Bush's most important political adviser.

Starting in 2004, some members of the George W. Bush administration and Republican lawmakers began to find evidence of discarded chemical weapons in Iraq. But when the information was brought up with the White House, senior adviser Karl Rove told them to ‘let these sleeping dogs lie.’

The issue of Iraq’s WMD remnant was suddenly thrust back into the fore this week, with a blockbuster New York Times report accusing the Bush administration of covering up American troops’ chemically-induced wounds.

To people familiar with the issue, both inside that administration and without, the blame for the cover up falls on one particular set of shoulders: Rove’s.

Rove is out to kill the Republican Party. And he’ll probably succeed.

They're ba-a-a-a-ack.

Now watch the MSM employees, et al. start screaming that during the Reagan administration "US exports to Iraq included the precursors to chemical warfare agents."

I recall that said precursors were agriculture chemicals that our Dept. of Agriculture gave to numerous countries around the world.

Mark Levin just read from the NYT article. I could feel the heat over the radio. Rove is a traitor. But the buck stops with Bush for allowing Rove to have his way. PATHETIC.

Agreed, I feel betrayed by Bush. This hurt our country, hurt our military and hurt our party.

Bush should come clean on this.

Remember those drums of “pesticides” they found?
I guess that was a lie too.

This was one of the WORST kept “secrets” of all times. I have seen pictures of the missiles, reports of the yellow cake, binary weapons, and so many other reports in minor venues. There were NOT given air by the MSM, but the info was pretty clear. Even the oft quoted by the left Downing Street Memo clear stated at the end that our troops had to be prepared if Sadam used WMD chemical weapons at the invasion. You just actually had to read the WHOLE memo.

It is very clear now that some secrets the left treasure won’t hold to real scrutiny. Just note the trouble with Man-made Global Warming. The signs of the propagandists are bizarre language usage, and changing of meaning.

But most of this info has been available for years.

These people let our troops hear that they were fighting for a lie!
Imagine what this costs in morale.

If this comes from Santorum, then I don't buy it. He's well-known for lying to his own constituents -- good "Christian" though he claims to be.

I'm no Rove fan, but what could possibly have been his motive to cover up the WMD? Why would he make Bush look bad?

None of it makes sense. This article smells.

I agree, with one difference: if these chemical weapons were deemed to be random, aging, left-behind items, not some major stockpile, and if they had announced the finding of the weapons, the MSM would have ridiculed them and said they were exaggerating to save face, or even called them liars. People on this thread are forgetting that the media waged war on Bush for nine years (campaign plus two terms), and nothing he could have said would have changed their minds about WMD's.

Sheer speculation would be blackmail over some politically sensitive or other national security issue.

Yes and I've heard the libs screaming for years that Reagan gave the chemicals to Saddam.

The trail to Samarra: how Iraq got the materials to make chemical weapons

This December 13, 1988 article does not specifically address the Reagan issue but it is still germane vis-a-vis Saddam's chemical weapons from agriculture chemicals.

"Phillips shipped 500 metric tons of TDG to Iraq in 1983. But the company refused a second, equally massive order a year later - after reports of Iraq's use of mustard gas began to surface in the West. Phillips officials repeatedly stress that they had no idea the chemical would be used for warfare, and still have no proof that it was. 'We were just making chemicals for agriculture; it was a normal business,' says Jos Dessers, a spokesman for Phillips in Tessenderlo."

MSM employees will be screaming "Reagan permitted Saddam to build WMD!"

In fact they have all along. Rumsfeld personally delivered the goods some lefty nut cases claim.

My point: Just be prepared for the screaming.
