More California cities may consider defying the state’s “sanctuary state” laws, after the city council of Los Alamitos passed an ordinance defying the state’s controversial new legislation preventing cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Leaders of Los Alamitos, in Orange County, passed the ordinance 4-1 and instructed the city attorney to file an amicus brief in the ongoing Department of Justice lawsuit against the State of California. The draft 2018 omnibus bill denies President Donald Trump explicit authority to withhold federal grants from the Democratic-dominated “sanctuary cities” which are trying to secede from the nation’s immigration laws, say Hill sources. There is “nothing in the omnibus bill to stop funding for the sanctuary cities,” said a source. “It will just be a continuation of the status quo” because Democrats threatened to torpedo the funding bill if it included new rules allowing administration officials to block federal funding to the cities which shield illegals from deportation, the source said.

It took five weeks for Kyle Kashuv, the conservative Parkland shooting survivor, to be granted an interview with CNN, despite several of his classmates getting plenty of airtime. Apparently, it has to do with one of his retweets. Kashuv's friend called to tell him the network had disinvited him. Pay attention to their actions, not what they say. A judge has blocked Mississippi's new law banning abortions after 15 weeks, and supporters of abortion say it is obviously unconstitutional. But of course, cities and states can blatantly ignore federal immigration law if they want, according to progressives, for whom abortion is a sacred right. The law bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, down from a 20-week restriction already on Mississippi's books. The Associated Press has called the Republican gubernatorial primary race for current Illinois governor Bruce Rauner, who defeated his conservative challenger Jeanne Ives in a tight contest tonight. Ives conceded to Rauner around 11:30 p.m., saying, “We fell just a bit short.” In spite of the close loss, the Ives campaign put together a remarkable effort in the primary, challenging Rauner to a difficult campaign season despite his massive spending advantage.
