New Hampshire court records reveal that for John Madore, who killed a hospital security officer, guns and mental illness intersected in dangerous ways. John Madore was barricaded in his Strafford bedroom, with a loaded 9-millimeter pistol and an assault rifle next to him, warning the police officers on the other side of the door. He had just allegedly choked his sister until she couldn’t breathe and knocked his mother to the floor, according to court documents. “I have firearms,” an affidavit quotes Madore as saying, “and this is not going to end well.” That was Jan. 11, 2016, inside his...

Endangered Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney chose to mingle with reporters and media executives over attending an annual grassroots event last weekend during a rare appearance in her home state. (snip) “I’m not going to convince the crazies and I reject the crazies,” Cheney told the Times Saturday while she gathered with reporters instead of grassroots supporters 230 miles away. “I reject the notion that somehow we don’t have to abide by the rule of law. And the people right now who are in the leadership of our state party, I’m not trying to get their support because they’ve abandoned the...

A growing number of Democrats are concerned their party is getting too "woke," which could run the risk of alienating future voters. "You ever get the sense that people in faculty lounges in fancy colleges use a different language than ordinary people?" James Carville said, Axios reported. "This is not how voters talk." Kevin Drum, formerly with Washington Monthly magazine, wrote, "the truth is that the Democratic Party has been pulled far enough left that even lots of non-crazy people find us just plain scary — something that Fox News takes vigorous advantage of." Whether the left's messaging has been...

Twitter on Friday removed the accounts of Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell and other high-profile supporters of President Donald Trump who promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory. The permanent bans are among the highest profile that the company has instituted as part of its efforts to crack down on misinformation and calls for violence. Flynn and Powell both met with Trump at the White House in recent weeks as part of efforts to overturn the presidential election results. They are also high-profile figures in the QAnon community, and Flynn even took an “oath” to the conspiracy theory last year.

While millions of Americans grapple with the serious issues facing this country ahead of Election Day, more Hollywood celebrities have decided that their contribution to civic engagement is taking off their clothes on social media to encourage voting. Stars including Ireland Baldwin and Oscar-winner Jared Leto are going nude to push voter participation. Baldwin, the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, posted topless photos of herself on Wednesday, wearing only “I Voted” stickers as pasties. “Voting is cool and so are disproportionate boobs,” the model posted on Instagram

A cruise ship carrying 2,000 passengers was greeted by protesters who threw stones and screamed at the crew as they tried to dock in Reunion Island because they thought the ship was infected with coronavirus. Police were forced to use tear gas to end the ugly clash after 30 locals from the French Republic, east of Madagascar, gathered as the Sun Princess docked on March 1. Protesters were concerned people on board could be carrying coronavirus after the ship docked in Thailand in early February. The disease has infected more than 88,000 people in 60 countries across the globe, killing...

The last thing Kathy Gunst and Katherine Alford expected when they published their cookbook “Rage Baking” was that the rage would be directed at them. “We started hearing from a lot of women we didn’t know saying, ‘You stole, you plagiarized,’” Ms. Alford said. “We were quite caught off guard.” The book — which is subtitled “The Transformative Power of Flour, Fury, and Women’s Voices” — was meant to celebrate anger and activism in the kitchen. While it may do that, it also ignited a conversation on social media about race, appropriation, feminism and marketing. Shortly after “Rage Baking” was...

House Democrats may conduct a second impeachment of President Trump, according to lawyers for the Judiciary Committee. In a Monday court filing reported by Politico, House Counsel Douglas Letter argued that they still need testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn, which may uncover new, impeachable evidence that Trump attempted to obstruct the Russiagate investigation (of a crime he didn’t commit). “If McGahn’s testimony produces new evidence supporting the conclusion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses that are not covered by the Articles approved by the House, the Committee will proceed accordingly — including, if necessary, by considering whether...

If you loved the first round of impeachment hearings, do Democrats have a treat for you: Liberal college professors yelling! You wonder if House Democrats do not watch CNN or MSNBC. If voters wanted to watch a group of experts scream their disapproval of President Trump, they could just turn on cable news or go online to watch reruns of “Morning Joe” from any day in the past three years. Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan ruptured eardrums when she bellowed out her conclusion that in Trump’s dealing with Ukraine, the president had attempted to “strong-arm a foreign leader” and that...

Borat director Larry Charles took to Twitter Monday and compared Trump supporters — or as he described them, “Maga people” — to the violent, pro-China “triad” mob who attacked peaceful pro-democracy protesters Sunday night and essentially encouraged far-left agitators to arm themselves for “war.” “After reading about armed #Triad thugs attacking pro-democracy protestors In #HongKong and the white supremacists/Proud Boys/Maga people embracing violence here I’m glad to see the left arming itself. This is war,” the longtime Curb Your Enthusiasm producer declared. Charles, a prolific producer, writer, and director, linked to a Guardian article that detailed the desires of left-wing...

More details about Rosie O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg's feud on "The View" have been unveiled. Ramin Setoodeh, author of "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of 'The View'" described a power clash between the two panelists as the root of their beef. “I don’t think she liked to be challenged,” Setoodeh told Jenny McCarthy of Goldberg. “I think she had the most problems with Rosie O’Donnell because Rosie wanted to challenge her and wanted to change the show. Rosie felt like Whoopi was kind of checked out.”

or generations, libraries were places where people went to borrow books, learn about the past, and kindle imaginations. Today, however, they occasionally find themselves at the forefront of the culture war. A case in point can be found in the Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL), where officials on Monday announced they would be offering a new summer series on cross-dressing—“Drag Story Hours—that is open to children and adults. "Drag pushes people to break boundaries and explore creativity, " said Chad Kampe, a Minnesota activist who organizes queer-friendly events and is promoting the series with SPLL. "At a very young age,...

Broadway legend Patti LuPone says if President Donald Trump came to see her new musical, War Paint, she wouldn’t perform for the “motherf***er.” While on the Tony Awards red carpet Sunday, LuPone was asked by Variety reporter Gordon Cox: “Why should President Trump come see your show? “Well, I hope he doesn’t, because I won’t perform if he does,” LuPone responded. “Why? “Tell me why,” Cox pressed. “Because I hate the motherf**cker, how’s that?” LuPone answered defiantly. LuPone, however wasn’t the only nominee to take a swipe at the President. “Maybe it would give him a little bit of a...
