Readers of this space know that highlighting beer's versatility is a recurring Hip Hops theme, with recent items on beer dinners, beers for wine lovers and even beers to pair with dessert. Coming up with five beers to complement Melissa Manaois' culinary creations is proving to be an especially fun exercise. Bad Cupcakes Two seventeen year old students in Metairie (LA) were busted for a prank gone wrong. On August 29th the two high school seniors allegedly dropped off a pan of laxative-laced cupcakes in the teachers lounge. The school principal removed the contaminated treat before any teacher could sample it. Both students were booked with mingling harmful substances, punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $1,000. Both are fighting the criminal charges and their expulsion.

A Fresno elementary school became the latest to ban cupcakes and other sugary treats in favor of healthier snacks this week. School officials at Roosevelt Elementary School say the move is part of a districtwide initiative to improve student nutrition. As part of the effort, the school substituted its "Donuts with Dad" event scheduled for later this week for one called "Fruit with Dad." Officials say they're also giving students more whole-grain bread and reduced-fat cheese, and cutting out high-sugar breakfast cereals and soft drinks in vending machines.
