July 2 (UPI) -- A former corrections officer was arrested in connection with three rapes in the Sacramento area more than 20 years ago. DNA evidence led detectives to Mark Manteuffel, 59, who lived in Decatur, Ga. He was arrested Friday and is expected to be extradited to Sacramento to face multiple charges, including torture and rape. Police matched DNA from the crime scenes and rape kits to a profile assembled from a genetic testing company. The genetic profile could have been Manteuffel or a family member. Detectives used a similar method to catch the so-called "Golden State Killer," who...

In legislation proposed earlier this month, Alabama state lawmakers compared abortions in the U.S. to the Holocaust and other modern genocides, prompting Jewish activists and abortion rights groups to rebuke the legislation as "deeply offensive." Senator Ben Albritton and Representative Terri Collins, both Republicans, filed matching bills in Alabama's state legislature that would ban abortion, making no exceptions for rape or incest. The legislation, dubbed the "Human Life Protection Act," would reclassify abortion as a felony offense, punishable by a minimum of ten years in prison for the physician. Within the text of each bill, the authors compare abortions to...

Alabama Dem opposing abortion bill: 'Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later' A Democratic state representative from Alabama is facing fierce backlash over his remarks in opposition to the abortion ban that was approved in his state, saying that "some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later." The Republican-controlled House in Alabama overwhelming approved a bill that would make it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of a pregnancy -- with a sole exemption for women whose health is at risk. The measure passed...

The Alabama House voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to outlaw almost all abortions in the state as conservatives took aim at the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. The Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted 74-3 for legislation that would make it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage in a woman’s pregnancy. The proposal passed after Democrats walked out of the chamber after sometimes emotional debate with opponents and supporters crowding the gallery. The bill now moves to the Alabama Senate. Supporters said the bill is intentionally designed to conflict with the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 1973...

FULL TITLE: School district's toilet policy under investigation after 'girl, five, was molested in the bathroom by a gender fluid student' The Department of Education's Civil Rights division is investigating after a five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a boy in her class in November last year. A complaint filed by the girl's mother alleges the child had gone to the bathroom, and the boy had been able to follow her because he identified as gender fluid and was, under school policy, allowed to be there. The mother, Pascha Thomas, further alleges when she made a complaint to the...

Several would-be robbers got an impromptu lesson in the Second Amendment outside a supermarket in suburban Atlanta, all thanks to the fact that they messed with the wrong couple. According to WSB-TV, the men were shot after approaching a couple outside of a Kroger in Decatur, Georgia, on Friday. Details are still sketchy, but police say the men followed the pair out of the store just after 4 p.m. and tried a robbery of some sort. That’s when one of the targets pulled out a gun and shot the men. “It was chaos,” one witness said. “I saw the guy...

Think the people at Chick-fil-A are honest, upstanding folks? This story will confirm your hunch. A civil rights lawyer in Decatur, Georgia, made a huge mistake when he dropped hundreds of dollars on the floor at a Chick-fil-A while eating breakfast, but a restaurant employee saved him from losing the cash, WXIA-TV reported. Attorney Victor Long had $1,200 in cash on him — money bound for the bank — on April 1 when he ate breakfast at the restaurant, he told WXIA. “I didn’t even think about backtracking, because I figured anybody who found the money, the way people need...

Some sort of tipping point seems to have been reached, with Sunday morning brunch patrons no longer willing to sit passively as noisy protesters attempt to guilt-trip them about being white, or having the disposable income to go out for a nice brunch, or something (in my view, mostly anger about being such losers). Gateway Pundit reports on the pushback in Atlanta and Minneapolis eateries yesterday. In Atlanta: Black Brunch protesters invaded several Decatur, Georgia restaurants on Sunday. Protesters report two establishments called police, with managers from Sweet Melissa’s trying unsuccessfully to throw them out.
