FR has been completely down for a few minutes. I checked it with a "Is It Down?" website or two. Now supposedly it's up, but you can't move from one link to another. Or if it manages to get to that other link, it's after you've knit a sweater starting with a ball of yarn. What's up with FR today?

ANNOUNCEMENT: We have installed a new SHA-256 secure server certificate on our freerepublic.com domain and we have a NEW donate link: https://freerepublic.com/donate/ FR is now more secure than ever! Google, Firefox, et al, were flagging our old SHA-1 secure server as "not secure" even though our certificate was paid-up, still valid, still in force and our secure server was still encrypting our donation transactions as securely as always to the SHA-1 standard. You should see a green "Secure" padlock now when you click on our new donate link and that signifies that your transaction will be encrypted by the newly...

I've noticed that leaving my browser open to FR really slows down my internet connection and or simply disrupts google Chrome. This started happening after last year's big long crash. Anybody else seeing problems?

My apologies if this topic has been covered, I did a search and couldn't find it. Using Chrome, when I click on the "Donate Now" link, I get a message from Chrome: "Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from secure.freerepublic.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Net::ERR_CERT_WEAK_SIGNATURE_ALGORITHM" I assume this message is nonsense, but just wondering what the deal is.

A couple of months ago, my card was hacked, not my account, so I waited for a new one to re-submit my FR donation.

Recieved this about an hour ago from the Trump campaign. ====================================================== In just 11 hours, our August fundraising will be over. There will be no turning back. Everyone from the media to Obama will be waiting to see our next report. They’ll want to see how we ended August compared to Hillary’s Wall Street Money Machine. In our last report, we shocked them with a massive fundraising haul powered solely by the American people. John, with your help, we plan on doing it once again. And when they’re combing through our official report, Obama, Hillary, and the media could stumble...

FReepers are a special kind of people. The first FReeper, was a man named Jim Robinson. Seeing things take place in our nation that he knew were wrong, he decided to develop an internet site where patriots could gather and network to effect change. In a short period of time there were literally thousands of people who had joined him. Many were joining him in Washington, D. C. to let our leaders know, we weren't happy. Today those people are known as FReepers and they do something no other site requests of it's members. They voluntarily pay to support the...

I wouldn't even put this in musings as a topic.. Just idle thought. And a little too much Heinie.. Funny how things just happen .. At places outside a normal folks realm. But then, what is 'normal' these days?

If you had to vote in your state primary/caucus today, knowing what you know now about the various declared and probable candidates, who would you vote for? Why? Who would you like to see as the running mate for your preferred candidate? If you could help staff your candidates cabinet and other top appointments, who would you choose? If you could recommend different congressional leaders than we have now, who would they be? And who would you like to see on the Supreme Court and why? And finally, feel free to donate to Free Republic.

After bemoaning the wealthy GOP donors who he says "actively despise" the party's conservative base, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has turned his campaign fundraising efforts toward luring in small-dollar bundlers. In what his camp is calling "the world's first presidential social crowd-funding platform," the Texas senator's campaign on Thursday announced CruzCrowd, a website that hopes to draw in donors who can raise multiple small donations. "Traditionally, wealthy bundlers have been the financiers and driving force behind presidential politics. Ted Cruz has proven his appeal to wealthy donors and they are a vital part of his campaign," Chris Wilson, director...
